Audit Assistant Manager

Location: Stockton On Tees, Newcastle
Contract: Full Time, Permanent
Salary: £45,000 - £50,000
Work Pattern: Hybrid & Flexible Working (37.5 hours)

We are currently recruiting for a Top 10 UK accountancy and advisory firm and specialist adviser to SMEs. Their audit teams work with a diverse portfolio of clients, offering varied exposure, continuous learning and genuine opportunities for progression into Manager and beyond.

You’ll be supported to grow technically, professionally and as a leader with a team that values collaboration and flexibility.

The Role

As an Audit Assistant Manager, you’ll take ownership of managing audit assignments from planning through to completion. You’ll play a key role in reviewing work, leading fieldwork, coaching junior team members and developing strong client relationships. You’ll work closely with Managers and Partners and will be encouraged to contribute your ideas and insight.

This role is ideal for someone who wants responsibility, progression and the opportunity to lead.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Lead and oversee audit fieldwork on client sites and remotely
  • Manage the planning and completion of audit assignments to agreed timescales
  • Review audit files and ensure documentation meets required standards
  • Identify and raise key risks, issues or judgements with the Manager/Partner
  • Prepare and review statutory accounts, applying professional judgement
  • Support, coach and develop junior members of the audit team
  • Act as a key point of contact for clients during engagements
  • Contribute to building long-term, trusted client relationships
What We’re Looking For
  • Qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CA) or qualified by experience
  • Strong experience leading audit fieldwork in practice
  • Confident in managing workloads, deadlines and client expectations
  • Ability to review work and provide clear, constructive feedback
  • Enjoys developing people and contributing to team culture
  • Ambitious, collaborative and keen to progress toward Audit Manager level

This role would suit a current Audit Senior, Assistant Manager or someone stepping into leadership for the first time.
