Job description

We havean exciting opportunity for an Audiologist at Princess Alexandra Hospital. ThePrincess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust (PAHT) provides a full range of generalacute, outpatient and diagnostic services. In this role, you will work acrossvarious settings with patients experiencing hearing difficulties, as well astheir families and carers. You will perform diagnostic hearing assessments forboth adults and children, ensuring highly accurate results, fit and verifyhearing aid prescriptions, develop individual treatment plans, and provideongoing care, advice, and support to patients with mild to moderate or profoundhearing loss.

Main duties of the job

As partof the Audiology team, you will often work independently while collaboratingwith Senior Audiologists, the Audiology Manager, and Deputy Manager forguidance when needed. You will provide support and supervision to the Band 4Assistant Audiologist and PTP Trainees. The role involves liaising with otherhospital departments, including Ear, Nose and Throat, Central Appointments,Speech and Language Therapy, and other Audiology teams. You will assess thehearing of adults and children over the age of 5 using a range of specialiseddiagnostic tests, including Pure Tone Audiometry, Acoustic AdmittanceMeasurements, Acoustic Reflex Measurements, Speech Audiometry, and Oto-AcousticEmissions.

Job responsibilities
  • To perform diagnostic and clinical assessments, including otoscopicexaminations and interpretation of test results, to formulate individualtreatment plans and identify any need for referral to ENT or SeniorAudiologist.
  • To obtain aural impressions and fit custom-made earplugs or hearing aidsfor adults and children, programming and verifying devices using appropriatesoftware and real ear measurements.
  • To modify ear moulds using specialized equipment to ensure comfort,optimal acoustic performance, and effective patient outcomes.
  • To review patient progress regularly, provide counselling and advice, andadjust hearing aid settings or rehabilitation plans as necessary.
  • To provide hearing aid repair services, troubleshoot non-routine problems,and implement individualized solutions.
  • To undertake home visits, inpatient visits, and paediatric audiologysupport as required, ensuring accessibility of audiological care acrossdifferent settings.
