Summary of Position

The Audio Visual Rack Build & Support Engineer role requires that the right candidate is adaptable individual with technical knowledge of Audio Visual (AV) systems to join our team to work closely with Project Managers. This multi-task role will primarily focus on delivering rack builds within our dedicated build facility, while also supporting AV installation projects. During quieter build periods, the individual will be requested to provide assistance to the service department, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations across the business. Locations predominantly within UK. The candidate would work on projects for clients within the education, higher education, government, and corporate sectors.

Audio Visual Rack Build & Support Engineer will be involved in all aspects of the AV Rack wiring & installation process, from first fix and second fix AV installations to offsite and onsite rack building and wiring. Field service support, the responsibilities include, wiring, and testing of audio-visual (AV) racks within the build room to ensure optimal performance, accurately interpreting schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation to facilitate efficient processes, and ensuring that all assemblies consistently meet company quality standards and project specifications. Additionally, it is essential to maintain a clean, organized, and safe environment in the rack build facility while following best practices in documentation, and to prepare the necessary equipment, cables, and documentation to ensure smooth deployment at site locations and within our rack build premises.

Good time management, planning and organisational skills are necessary to drive quality and excellence. The ability to learn and adapt quickly to challenges onsite and off‑site.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Rack Build & Technical Preparation.
  • Wiring, and testing of AV racks in the build room.
  • Interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Work closely with Project Managers and maintain a close communication schedule of works.
  • Ensure equipment are requested to the warehouse in a timely manner.
  • Ensure all builds meet company quality standards and project requirements.
  • Maintain an organised, safe, and well‑documented rack build facility.
  • Prepare equipment, cables, and documentation ready for site deployment.
Installation Support
  • Assist project teams with onsite installation, testing, and commissioning of AV systems.
  • Collaborate with engineers and project managers to ensure deadlines and quality standards are met.
  • Support logistics, pre‑staging, and configuration of AV hardware.
Service Support
  • Provide technical assistance to the service team during non‑peak build periods.
  • Support troubleshooting and diagnostics for AV systems under maintenance contracts.
  • Assist with service calls, either remotely or onsite, when required.
  • Maintain service stock, loan equipment, and documentation records.
Documentation and Supervision
  • Completing project documentation, including but not limited to, time sheets, progress reports, pick requests, completion reports, AV/IT schedules.
  • Provide support to subcontract and junior resources onsite & Off‑site, if required.

Qualifications & Training
  • Grade C/4 or above GCSE Maths & English
  • Full, clean driving licence.
  • CSCS or ECS.
  • CTS & CTS-I
  • Manual Handling training. ( Can be provided)
  • First Aid training. ( Can be provided)
  • Asbestos Awareness training.( Can be provided)
  • PASMA / IPAF. ( can be provided )
Desirable
  • CTS-D.
  • Manufacturer specific training, Crestron, Extron, AMX, QSC etc.
  • SSSTS / SSMTS.
Experience & Skills
Essential
  • Minimum of two years previous experience as an installation engineer in AV or a related discipline.

  • Experience leading and supervising others in a construction site environment.
Desirable
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software.
  • Experience in other related trades, data communications, electrical installation etc.

Product Knowledge
Essential
  • Understanding of Audio‑Visual components and mounting solutions and how they integrate into buildings.
  • Interest or understanding of AV/IT systems.
  • Testing and fault‑finding electronic equipment and AV systems.
Desirable
  • HDBT, AVoIP and fibre systems usage, limits etc.
  • Advanced projector alignment (edge blending, stacking etc.).
  • Experience in AV equipment configuration (loading pre‑written code and files, changing IP addresses).
Competencies
  • Working safely in a team and alone.
  • Working at height.
  • Working with hand tools (cutters, spanners, screwdrivers etc.).
  • Ability to lift loads of 25kg.
  • Working with power tools (drills, impact drivers, saws etc.).
  • Ability to read, understand and adapt engineering drawings.
