Full Time
Are you a creative storyteller who knows how to engage with readers? Are you skilled at creating stories that spark curiosity, drive clicks, and keep readers coming back?
We’re seeking an Audience Writer who knows how to write with purpose! As our Audience Writer, you’ll create content that doesn’t just inform - it connects. You’ll dive into the mindset of your audience and craft stories that keep them coming back for more.
About us:
Hello, we’re Reach. Every day, our trusted news, stories and content connect with millions of people where they live - whether that’s on their social feed or at their neighbourhood newsstand; through their local community or their take on the hot topic of the day.
We're home to more than 120 brands - from household names like the Mirror, Express, Daily Star and Daily Record, to local titles like MyLondon, BelfastLive, and the Manchester Evening News, and brands making a splash in the US like the Irish Star.
It's our ability to understand people and the things that matter to them that makes us Britain and Ireland's largest commercial news publisher. We reach around 70% of the UK's online population, 10% of the US online population, and over 100 million social followers around the world, connecting with them on who they are, where they live and what they love.
As a modern media organisation, we're much more than just news. And it takes a wide range of people and skills to serve diverse audiences, customers and communities like we do.
We know everyone has their own story to tell, so we’ve built an environment where every background is respected and every day is a day to explore. We’ll help you build a career that works with your life, while giving you the space to create and grow.
In this fast-paced newsroom role, you’ll dive deep into audience behaviours using tools like Newswhip, Google Trends, and Taboola Newsroom to uncover what people care about and how best to tell those stories. You’ll craft compelling articles, blogs, newsletters, and social posts tailored to audience needs, optimised for SEO and platform performance.
With AI tools at your fingertips (used in line with company policies), you’ll boost efficiency and creativity while delivering a consistent pipeline of high-quality content - at least six articles per day, each targeting 12,000+ pageviews. You’ll also create engaging affiliate content that drives traffic and revenue, adapt stories for off-platform channels, and explore audio/video formats to expand reach. Collaboration is key: you’ll work closely with editors, designers, and marketers to shape strategy and execution.
You’ll be a digitally savvy storyteller with a passion for local journalism and a flair for engaging content. You’ll have experience working with CMS platforms, capturing video and photography, and building communities on social media. Strong writing, research, and audience insight are essential, along with creativity, attention to detail, and adaptability to evolving trends. You’ll be a confident communicator, a team player, and highly organised, with the professionalism to thrive in a fast-paced newsroom.
Shorthand at 100wpm (or working towards), a driving licence, and access to a vehicle are desirable. Journalism qualifications and prior content writing experience are preferred but not essential.
As a member of the General Assignments team, the successful candidate must be available to work at short notice, and comfortable with accommodating last-minute requests as needed to support business needs.
