Job summary

Billesley Primary School is seeking an Attendance and Mentoring Lead to join our pastoral team. You will build strong relationships with pupils and families, monitor attendance, and deliver targeted mentoring to improve engagement and wellbeing.

The role focuses on safeguarding, inclusion, data-driven improvement and working closely with staff to support pupils with complex circumstances. This is a full-time post within our school community.

Qualifications

  • Experience leading attendance initiatives and mentoring programs.
  • Ability to analyse attendance data and identify patterns to inform actions.
  • Experience liaising with families and external agencies to access support.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, highly organised, and compassionate Attendance and Mentoring Lead to join our dedicated pastoral team. This exciting opportunity is ideal for a professional who understands the key drivers of excellent school attendance, demonstrates a genuine passion for nurturing pupils’ social and emotional development and effectively leverages parental engagement to achieve positive outcomes.

The successful candidate will play a key role in building positive relationships with pupils, families and teaching staff, identifying barriers to attendance, and leading the provision of effective mentoring and pastoral support.

You will:

  • Promote a positive culture of attendance throughout the school.
  • Lead on the daily systems and processes, monitoring and promotion of pupil attendance and mentoring
  • Analyse attendance data to identify patterns, trends and pupils requiring additional support.
  • Work closely with school leaders, teachers, families and external agencies to improve attendance.
  • Develop positive, trusting relationships with pupils and families and provide targeted mentoring; and lead, develop and quality assure other mentors
  • Communicate sensitively, confidently and collaboratively with parents, carers and staff regarding attendance concerns and mentoring requirements
  • Maintain accurate, up‑to‑date and confidential records.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Deliver a vision for school attendance through the school’s new ARC strategy (Accountability, Relationships, Communication).
  • Lead robust attendance initiatives, monitor pupil data and collaborate with families and local agencies to improve attendance and reduce persistent absence.
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with parents and carers to identify and address attendance concerns early.
  • Lead and deliver targeted social, emotional and behavioural support to pupils through one‑to‑one and group mentoring, including quality assuring of wider mentoring provision.
  • Maintain accurate records and track the outcomes of mentoring interventions to demonstrate positive progress.
  • Work closely with the wider Pastoral Team, teaching staff and the Senior Leadership Team to support pupils experiencing challenges.
