Job summary

Northumberland County Council invites Newly Qualified Social Workers to join the ASYE Academy in Northumberland. The programme provides an assessed and supported year in employment with a focus on Signs of Safety and professional development.

You will receive tailored supervision, a structured learning pathway and a caseload designed to help you transition from student to professional practitioner in a supportive environment.

Are you a Newly Qualified Social Worker keen to complete your ASYE with an 'Outstanding' Local Authority? If so, it is an exciting time to join Northumberland County Council as we commence recruitment for NORTHUMBERLAND CHILDREN'S ASYE ACADEMY. We would like to offer you an opportunity to complete your Assessed and Supported Year in Employment (ASYE) within our innovative supportive, bespoke learning Academy which has been recognised by Ofstead and Skills for Care. The Programme commences Nov 2026.

Come and join us and we'll provide a framework of support to ensure your individual needs are met. Working full time, you will partake in an extensive training programme specifically selected to develop your skills, competencies and confidence. Throughout your journey, you will be supported by experienced managers to manage a carefully selected caseload; to enable you to apply your learning and manage your progress in the areas of practice and development identified for you. In addition;

  • You will develop the knowledge and skills within a learning, nurturing environment, resulting in the development of you as a confident, caring social worker with a robust value base.
  • You will always want to hear the child's voice and ensure that this is taken into account.
  • We will support you to develop your knowledge base of the Post Qualifying Standards (Knowledge and Skills Statement for Child and Family Social work) and the application of Professional Capabilities Framework (PCF) which will be embedded within all elements of practice.
  • You will develop your knowledge base around the Signs of Safety approach.
  • You will be given reflective supervision on a fortnightly basis in order to support your application of theory to practice;
  • You will partake in training, group supervision and mentoring.
  • You will be passionate about maximising a child's life chances to improve their overall outcomes.
  • You will care enough to want to make a difference to a child's life - every day.

Your role
