Job summary

Carrington West is partnering with a leading Scottish consultancy to recruit an Associate Town Planner or Associate Director. The role is hybrid, based in Edinburgh or Glasgow, with flexible office-based and home working.

You will lead planning projects, advise private clients, mentor junior staff and help grow the Scottish planning portfolio. MRTPI/chartered status and RTPI-accredited degree are highly desirable.

Qualifications

• MRTPI / Chartered Planner status is required.
• Degree in Planning or RTPI-accredited qualification.
• Significant post-qualification experience in planning consultancy.
• Experience managing planning projects across multiple development types.
• Ability to build trusted relationships with clients and stakeholders.
• Experience leading projects and/or teams.
• Proactive in identifying opportunities and developing business.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver to deadlines.

Responsibilities

Are you an experienced planning professional ready to take the next step in your career as an Associate Town Planner or Associate Director?

We're working with a leading multidisciplinary consultancy that is continuing to grow its Planning and Environment team across Scotland. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Associate Town Planner / Associate Director to join a well-established consultancy, work on high-profile projects and take on increased responsibility across a growing portfolio of work.

The role offers hybrid working from either the Edinburgh or Glasgow office, providing flexibility while still giving you the opportunity to collaborate with a strong team of technical specialists.

The consultancy works across a diverse range of sectors, including energy, transport and defence, supporting clients on complex and often nationally significant development projects.

The Opportunity

This Associate Town Planner / Associate Director position is suited to an experienced planner who is confident providing strategic planning advice, managing projects and building strong client relationships.

You'll have the opportunity to work across a broad portfolio of development projects, taking responsibility for planning deliverables from project inception through to completion. You'll also play an important role in developing client relationships, supporting business growth and mentoring less experienced members of the team.
This is an ideal opportunity for an experienced Associate Town Planner looking for progression, or an established Associate Director seeking a new challenge within a growing Scottish consultancy.

Key Responsibilities

About You

We're looking for an experienced planning professional with a strong understanding of the UK planning system and a proven track record within planning consultancy or a similar environment.

You’ll ideally have:

• MRTPI / Chartered Planner status.
• A degree in Planning or a related RTPI-accredited qualification.
• Significant post-qualification experience within planning consultancy or a similar environment.
• Experience managing planning projects across a range of development @types.
• The ability to build trusted relationships with clients and stakeholders.
• Experience leading projects and/or teams.
• A proactive approach to identifying opportunities and developing business.
• The ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver work to deadlines.

Experience of Section 36 or Section 37 applications, Development Consent Orders (DCOs), or major infrastructure projects would be advantageous, although it is not essential.
