Hitachi Energy has an exciting new opportunity for an Associate Technical Consultant, Power Consulting. You will be responsible for the development of advisory projects for major electricity sector agents, including distribution, transmission, retail, and generators, helping them deal with regulatory, economic, and electricity challenges. You will assist in building and retaining long‑lasting relationships with internal and external customers to support profitable growth and ongoing satisfaction. The position is hybrid, with 2‑3 days working from our central Birmingham offices. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

How you’ll make an impact
  • Work in an environment of international collaboration within the different Power Consulting units, working on consulting assignments using established standards, methods, and technologies to develop solutions and resolve issues.
  • Propose technical and engineering solutions to meet client needs and actively seek feedback for improvement.
  • Conduct work—research, market studies, qualitative and quantitative analysis, policy support, report writing, and presentation development—across a range of international climate and energy projects.
  • Help drive project proposals, including approaches, timelines, staffing plans, and budgets.

Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in electrical engineering, electrical power systems, or a related field (required). Advanced degrees preferred (Master’s, Ph.D., MBA).
  • Experience and knowledge of the electric power industry, market, systems, and equipment.
  • Ability to identify opportunities for new and repeat consulting business.
  • Proficiency with C++, MATLAB, Simulink, GaBi Dfx, Homer, Python, and Microsoft Office (especially Excel, Power BI, PowerApps, and VBA).
  • Analytical and solution‑oriented working style.
  • Strong planning, prioritisation, and systemic thinking skills.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.
  • Knowledge of additional sectors such as electric transport, battery storage, offshore wind, hydrogen, virtual power plants, and beneficial.
