Job summary

Proclinical is seeking an Associate Scientist to join its expanding synthetic chemistry and drug discovery team in Cambridge, UK. This laboratory-based role focuses on supporting the discovery of novel small-molecule medicines, with a strong emphasis on practical synthetic chemistry and analytical work.

Applicants with a BSc or MSc in chemistry and hands-on synthesis experience will be considered; medicinal chemistry experience is not mandatory.

Qualifications

• BSc or MSc in chemistry, organic chemistry, synthetic chemistry or a related discipline.
• Practical synthetic chemistry experience gained through employment, an industrial placement, internship or academic research project.
• Knowledge of organic synthesis and compound purification.
• Familiarity with NMR, LC-MS, HPLC or chromatography.
• Strong attention to detail, communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Synthesize and purify small-molecule compounds on milligram-to-gram scale.
• Support synthetic route design and optimisation.
• Use organic synthesis, chromatography and preparative HPLC techniques.
• Analyse and interpret NMR, LC-MS and HPLC data.
• Troubleshoot synthetic, purification and analytical challenges.
• Maintain accurate experimental records.
• Present results and collaborate with multidisciplinary scientists.
• Support safe and effective laboratory operations.

Associate Scientist, Synthetic Chemistry

Looking for an opportunity to apply your chemistry expertise in a cutting-edge drug discovery environment?

Proclinical is working alongside a growing biopharmaceutical organisation is seeking an Associate Scientist to join its expanding synthetic chemistry and drug discovery team. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career synthetic chemist, organic chemist or chemistry graduate to gain industry experience supporting the discovery of novel small-molecule medicines. Previous medicinal chemistry experience is not essential.

Location: Cambridge, UK

Sector: Pharmaceutical | Drug Discovery | Small Molecule Research

Working Pattern: Laboratory-based (5 days per week)

Contract: 12 Months
