Job summary

R&D Partners in Scotland is seeking an Associate Scientist to own and execute assay development projects within the Assay Development team, contributing to the next generation of diagnostic technologies.

Working with minimal supervision, you will plan experiments, analyze data, maintain notebooks per GDP, and collaborate with cross-functional groups to deliver robust, regulatory-compliant results that advance life-saving diagnostics.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Science or equivalent qualification.
  • Experience in laboratory environments and executing procedures with minimal supervision.
  • Strong data analysis and computer literacy.
  • Familiarity with GDP/GLP and risk management compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct and plan small-scale experiments independently to support project objectives.
  • Assist in designing and developing complex experiments and multiple diagnostic assays.
  • Analyze experimental data and deliver clear technical conclusions, summaries, and recommendations within set deadlines.
  • Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment, adhering to protocols and coordinating with external suppliers when needed.
  • Ensure regulatory and quality compliance by maintaining notebooks and records according to GDP.
  • Draft SOPs or Non-Conformance reports and act as a notebook reviewer.
  • Identify errors or out-of-trend results, suggesting inventive solutions and continuous improvements to protocols and test methods.
  • Present summaries of work at team meetings and cross‑functional groups, fostering positive team morale and collaboration.

R&D Partners is seeking an Associate Scientist to join an innovative R&D project team within Assay Development (Molecular or Reagents R&D). Operating with minimal supervision, you will take ownership of planning, executing, and completing experiments to advance the development of novel diagnostic assays. This role combines hands‑on research excellence with high‑quality data analysis, offering an inspiring environment where your scientific contributions directly support life‑changing medical diagnostic solutions.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct and plan small-scale experiments independently to support project objectives.

  • Identify errors or out-of-trend results, suggesting inventive solutions and continuous improvements to protocols and test methods.
  • Present summaries of work at team meetings and cross‑functional groups, fostering positive team morale and collaboration.

Key Skills and Requirements:

  • Degree in Science or equivalent professional qualification (higher education required).
  • Proven hands‑on experience in laboratory environments with confidence in executing experimental procedures under minimal supervision.
  • Strong computer literacy and data analysis skills with a solid theoretical understanding of scientific disciplines.
  • Working knowledge of GLP/GDP standards, Design Control, Health & Safety biosafety protocols, COSHH, and risk management compliance.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, strong numeracy skills, and a proactive approach to identifying and solving technical errors.
  • Strong communication skills with a track record of effectively presenting scientific data to peers and cross‑functional teams.
