Overview

This is an exciting opportunity to support the delivery and effective operation of Community Point of Care Testing (POCT) services across the Berkshire and Surrey Pathology Services (BSPS) network. The post holder will play a key role within the Lab – Kit/Community team, ensuring the safe, accurate, and efficient use of POCT equipment and services in community settings.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in the implementation, maintenance, and quality assurance of POCT systems in line with national and local standards.
  • Provide technical support, training, and guidance to laboratory, clinical, and community colleagues to ensure compliance with governance and quality management frameworks.
  • Support the maintenance and operation of Point of Care (POC) equipment across Lab – Kit and other community sites, ensuring all protocols, quality standards, and safety requirements are met.
  • Apply departmental policies and SOPs, maintaining high levels of patient safety and service reliability.
  • Travel regularly to multiple sites, control consumable stock, and maintain effective communication within the POCT team to optimise daily workflow.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot quality issues, participate in internal and external audits, and support IQC/EQA processes.
  • Evaluate and implement new POCT technologies, ensuring services remain efficient and compliant.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to achieve and maintain ISO accreditation and adhere to national POCT guidelines.
