Nature Portfolio’s Scientific Reports Associate or Senior Editor role in London supports the Chief Editor in editorial decision-making, manages peer review, and helps expand the journal's reach through outreach and conferences.

The position is full-time and based in our London office with a hybrid working model. Candidates with PhD-level research experience in engineering or computer sciences and a passion for science are encouraged to apply.

Responsabilités

• Assist in the daily management of the journal workflow, acting as handling editor on manuscripts, providing rapid, constructive peer-review and publication decisions.
• Contribute to content development by working with the Editorial Board on the commissioning and publication of subject-specific collections.
• Establish and maintain relationships with EBMs; support recruitment and training of new EBMs.
• Community outreach to EBMs and potential authors, including participation at international and national conferences.
• Input to policy development initiatives and implement editorial policy.

About the Role

As an Associate or Senior Editor, you will support the Chief Editor and Deputy Editors of Scientific Reports in managing the Editorial Board and editorial decision-making processes across the journal. You will support content delivery by making editorial decisions, and managing peer review for specific manuscripts, and help to expand the reach of the journal through conference attendance and dedicated outreach initiatives. Key performance indicators include rapid publication, sound peer-review practices, and high levels of service to authors, reviewers and Editorial Board Members (EBMs). This is a fantastic opportunity for somebody with a passion for science to break into an editorial career on a high-profile, fast-paced, multidisciplinary journal. The position is offered on a full-time basis and will be based in our London office on a hybrid working basis. The location(s) strategy supports team structure and aligns business needs.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the daily management of the journal workflow, acting as handling editor on manuscripts, providing rapid, constructive peer-review and publication decisions -Manuscript Assessment, Agile learning, Communicates Effectively and Critical Scientific Evaluation
• Contribute to content development by working with the Editorial Board on the commissioning and publication of subject-specific collections - Collaboration, Strategic mindset, Interpersonal Awareness
• Establish and maintain relationships with EBMs; support the recruitment and training of new EBMs where required Decision Quality, Being Resilient - Promptly resolve pre- and post- publication issues raised by staff, EBMs and readers (e.g. authorship, scope, ethics and consent, misconduct)
• Community outreach to EBMs, and potential authors, including participation at international and national conferences, Editorial Board meetings and lab visits as required - Scientific Comprehension, Drives engagement and Communicates Effectively.
• Input to policy development initiatives and implement editorial policy - Publishing Workflows & Systems

• Desirable Editorial experience is not required, although applicants with editorial experience are encouraged to apply and may be considered for Senior Editor positions.
