Associate Nurse Director/Lead Nurse – Mental Health

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Associate Nurse Director/Lead Nurse – Mental Health within our North Ayrshire Health and Social Care Partnership based at Cunninghame House, Irvine KA12 8EE.

Hours and Shift Pattern

37 hours worked Monday to Friday. On call requirement of twice/month covering overnight (5pm-9am) and/or weekends/public holidays (9am-9pm). This post is offered on a permanent basis.

What you will do

This post is for Associate Nurse Director for Mental Health Service and the Lead Nurse for NAHSCP. The most senior nurse within the Health & Social Care Partnership (HSCP) and a key member of the Integrated Joint Board, the HSCP Senior Management Team and NHS Ayrshire & Arran’s NMHAP Professional Leadership Group. The post holder will undertake a lead professional role on behalf of the NAHSCP Director and Nurse Director in the delivery of pan-Ayrshire Mental Health Services as well as Lead Nurse for NAHSCP. The Associate Nurse Director has a lead professional role on behalf of the North Ayrshire Health and Social Care Partnership Director and Nurse Director in the delivery of pan-Ayrshire and NAHSCP services; for example –Mental Health Services ensuring the delivery of person centred, safe, effective and efficient pan- Ayrshire Services. The post holder has strategic and operational leadership responsibility for ensuring the delivery of person centred, safe and effective nursing services and clinical practice within NAHSCP, including commissioning arrangements, providing direction and guidance on professional issues by establishing effective clinical and care governance arrangements, developing policy and establishing an effective and highly skilled nursing workforce to meet the needs of the Ayrshire & Arran population, in accordance with the CNO 2030 Vision, the Healthcare Quality Strategy, Excellence for Ayrshire, Caring for Ayrshire and NAHSCP Strategy.

Knowledge, training and/or experience required to do the job

The successful candidate will have good knowledge of quality management theory and systems, transformation, change and innovation theory and methodologies – with evidence of putting these into practice successfully. Further, they will be able to demonstrate a significant track record of success in the management of service improvement, in the delivery and monitoring of high quality standards of care, in the planning and delivery of successful organisational change and in proactive partnership working internal and external to the NHS. They will also have a high level of performance in the leadership behaviours identified as crucial within NHS Scotland such as: working in partnership, learning and development, caring for staff, improving performance through team working, communicating effectively, improving quality and achieving results and a detailed understanding of clinical best practice and policy.

  • Experience of working within and successfully contributing to a senior management team.
  • Demonstrable experience of managing in a large, complex health organisation during a period of major change.
  • Experience in staff management/development and multi-disciplinary working at peer level.
  • Proven people and financial management capabilities.
  • Demonstrable in-depth understanding of clinical and care governance principles and the development of systems and frameworks to establish clear accountabilities based on professional codes of practice.
  • Detailed understanding of current health and care policy and strategic influences.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate staff and create energy and momentum which drives excellence, transformation and improvement.
  • Excellent well-developed interpersonal and strategic skills and a supportive and visible leadership style which demonstrates competencies in the critical leadership behaviours identified as crucial to achieving success within NHS Scotland.
  • Excellent presentation, communication, problem solving and report writing skills.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work in emergent and complex scenarios and must be able to provide guidance and support that engenders confidence in senior colleagues charged with implementing significant change programmes.
  • Strong team-working and networking skills allied to a clear ability to engage with a wide range of staff at all levels in the organisation.

Qualifications
  • Current registered nurse qualification with the NMC.
  • Educated to Masters Level or equivalent.
  • Evidence of continuous professional development in management and leadership.

  • Significant senior management experience in the NHS or another complex multidisciplinary public organisation.
