What actually changes when you move from Senior to Associate?
At Senior you run the project. At Associate you run the project, the team on it, the fee bid that won it and the client who commissioned it. The technical work does not go away, it just stops being the whole job. If that sounds like a step up rather than a distraction, keep reading.
Our client is an international MEP consultancy known for low energy, low carbon design, and their data centre schemes have grown large enough to need an Associate Mechanical Design Engineer running them properly.
The role covers directing major data centre projects with team management attached, running feasibility studies and preparing fee bids, developing mechanical specifications for controls and operating systems, surveying existing installations and producing technical reports, monitoring project risk and performance, and fronting client and contractor meetings. Engineering services coordination sits at the centre of it, because the practice expects a holistic solution rather than a mechanical design passed over the fence.
The requirements are straightforward at this level:
Twenty three to twenty eight days holiday with tenure, hybrid working, contributory pension, healthcare, sponsored training and volunteering leave, with salary set by experience.
