The Opportunity

Our award-winning landscape architecture practice is growing! It is an integrated team of landscape designers and landscape planners, with projects including landscape assessment and strategy, LVIA, green infrastructure strategies, concept design, masterplanning, detailed design, landscape management, visualisations and 3D modelling. We work side by side with a wide range of Arup’s other specialist disciplines including urban design, ecology, town planning, digital technology, engineering, cost consulting and project management.

We have a diverse workload of high-profile projects across the UK and internationally, ranging in scale from environmental infrastructure design, major transportation projects through to restoration, town centre regeneration, streetscape design and green buildings.

We’re currently looking for an Associate to join our teams based in our new, ground-breaking offices in central Birmingham, which is built for hybrid working. You will lead on projects, collaborating with an unrivalled community of experts, who will support and nurture your growth. This role will require you to lead on business development activities for landscape planning across the region and support the professional development of others in the team. The Arup project portfolio is exciting and diverse covering all aspects of landscape planning from policy to the development of strategies. This role will expose you to a range of project scales and types, each offering their own opportunity for tailored personal development. A key focus of the role will be on leading on and writing LVIAs, including to support Development Consent Orders (DCO) for major projects, ensuring good design is embedded from the outset.

Is this role right for you?

We are seeking an individual with demonstrable experience of landscape architecture, particularly working in multi-disciplinary teams and with a good understanding of the UK planning system and how our work relates to it. We are particularly interested in hearing from individuals with sector experience in areas such as water, transport, commercial development, urban regeneration, residential, education, healthcare, historic buildings and landscape planning strategic policy.

The successful candidate will demonstrate the following qualifications, attributes, and skills as well as an exceptional report writing ability, and an interest in planning and assessment as part of an integrated design process:

  • Experience and knowledge of the Energy Sector and large scale linear infrastructure projects.
  • A degree level qualification in Landscape Architecture or Landscape Management and CMLI accreditation with good knowledge of professional ethics and ethical framework.
  • Team leadership, collaboration and project and commercial management skills. Including managing projects and fee budgets.
  • Working knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS/Pro, AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office.
  • A track record in building relationships with clients and familiar with and an interest in stakeholder engagement.
