Job summary

HDR’s UK power hub in Glasgow seeks an Associate Electrical Engineer to lead multidisciplinary teams on high‑profile power projects. You will guide design from concept to completion, shaping the direction of local operations within HDR’s global power team.

You will leverage your broad technical expertise to deliver detailed designs, mentor engineers, and drive innovative, safe, and efficient substation solutions across a growing portfolio.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering required; a Master’s degree is highly desirable.
  • Chartered status is preferred.
  • Minimum of 8 years in technical design for high‑voltage switchyards and substations up to 765 kV.
  • Strong knowledge of physical, electrical, civil, and structural design components.
  • Familiar with IEC, IEEE, ANSI, and other key design standards.

Responsibilities

  • Lead management of project and package delivery, defining technical requirements and scopes of work.
  • Drive projects from concept to detailed design with regular design reviews.
  • Ensure design projects meet high technical standards and undergo reviews.
  • Foster strong client relationships and deliver high satisfaction to encourage repeat business.
  • Identify new opportunities and contribute to business development efforts.
  • Mentor and lead the team; set objectives and coach staff.
  • Oversee progress, manage design variations, and support budget control.
  • Champion QA systems and ensure compliance with delivery standards.
  • Adhere to H&S standards and CDM regulations.
  • Uphold ISO 9001 and 14001 quality benchmarks.
