Job summary

WSP in the UK & Ireland is seeking an Associate Director to lead our urban drainage modelling capability within the water team. You will guide technical delivery, influence project outcomes, and shape client relationships with major water utilities.

The role offers hybrid working across the UK, with development opportunities, chartership support, and a collaborative environment for advancing your expertise in urban drainage and wastewater modelling.

Qualifications

  • A relevant degree and chartered, or significantly progressed toward ICE/IEI/IoW/CIWEM.
  • Experience in wastewater hydraulic modelling (InfoWorks ICM) and QA of peer outputs.
  • Working knowledge of Water Industry Specifications and relevant standards.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of urban drainage modelling capability.
  • Support the day-to-day management of the technical delivery team.
  • Provide authoritative input on urban drainage projects, working with the wastewater team.
  • Apply independent professional judgement to solve engineering challenges.
  • Build trusted client relationships and run project meetings.
  • Contribute to business development, proposals, and growth opportunities.
  • Represent WSP in industry forums and conferences.
  • Share knowledge to develop the wider water team.

What You’ll Do
  • Lead the development of our urban drainage modelling capability, ensuring the team remains ahead of the curve on evolving methods, tools, and standards
  • Support the team lead with the day-to-day management of our technical delivery team
  • Provide authoritative technical input on urban drainage projects, working closely with our wastewater team to support innovative and efficient project delivery
  • Apply independent professional judgement to solve complex engineering challenges and drive innovation
  • Build strong, trusted client relationships and facilitate internal and external project meetings
  • Contribute to business development, proposals, and strategic growth opportunities
  • Represent WSP in industry forums and conferences
  • Share knowledge widely, contributing to the development of the wider water team
What We Will Be Looking For You To Demonstrate…
  • A relevant degree and chartered, or significantly progressed on your journey in pursuing qualification with ICE, IEI, IoW or CIWEM
  • Able to demonstrate clear and successful experience of wastewater hydraulic modelling (InfoWorks ICM) and an ability to check the technical outputs of others prior to issue
  • A good working knowledge of Water Industry Specifications, Code of Practice for the Hydraulic Modelling of Urban Drainage Systems and relevant British Standards
  • Good presentation, written and verbal communication skills
