Job summary

Cobalt Consulting (UK) Ltd in London is seeking an Associate Director, Town Planning, to drive a dynamic practice with a strong delivery track record across residential and commercial sectors. You will lead projects, develop client relationships, mentor juniors, and contribute to business development within a multidisciplinary firm that values progression toward Director level.

The ideal candidate has at least eight years in planning, MRTPI or equivalent, and excellent written and verbal

Qualifications

  • At least 8 years within planning, ideally in consultancy.
  • Strong development management skillset and expertise.
  • MRTPI or equivalent qualification.
  • Excellent written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Leading on projects, delegating and taking on leadership roles.
  • Maintaining relationships with clients, providing accurate advice and communicating effectively.
  • Managing pre-apps and planning applications through the development process.
  • Communicating and negotiating with clients, stakeholders and local authorities.
  • Business development and building own client base, or bringing your own.
  • Attending Planning Committee meetings, consultations and related events for the Company and clients.
  • Mentoring and helping to manage junior team members.

In this role, you can focus on pursuing a team target, with less emphasis on your personal billings versus a larger traditional corporate. My client is a multi-disciplinary organisation so you would also have greater opportunity to cross sell.

With a well-balanced team and capacity for future leaders, the structure of the business also supports potential for progression at Associate Director and Director level.

If you are confident already operating at Associate Director level, or an Associate, Planner ready to progress, this could be the opportunity for you!

You will be involved in (among other responsibilities):

  • Leading on projects, assisting in delegating and starting to take on leadership role.
  • Continuing to maintain relationships with clients in providing accurate advice and communicating effectively.
  • Dealing with pre-apps and manage planning applications through the development process.
  • Communicating and negotiating with clients, stakeholders and local regularly.
  • Business development and working up your own client base, or bringing your own.
  • Attending meetings for Planning Committee, Consultations and similar events in representation of both the Company and clients through the planning process.
  • Mentoring and helping to manage junior team members.

You will ideally:

  • Have at least 8 years within planning - ideally in consultancy
  • Strong development management skillset and expertise
  • Be MRTPI or equivalent
  • Be a strong communicator with excellent written work
