Job Description Summary

Strategic Debt Finance Asset Management ("SDF AM") are responsible for managing the Bank's c.£3.0bn portfolio of highly levered Corporate and/or Private Equity backed transactions. The SDF AM Associate Director role has responsibility for leading and managing a portfolio of clients, where activity levels are high. The portfolio is diverse, complex and fast paced. The role includes not only active portfolio management, completing annual renewals and delivery of multiple ad‑hoc client credit requests but also taking the lead on complex credit events such as covenant re‑sets / amendments, amendment to extend requests, incremental facilities, bolt‑on acquisitions and tenor extensions, supporting the SDF Origination business. A key focus of the role is to identify / minimise risk via detailed assessment and analysis of our clients (cash flow, business model, risks, management assessment, market). Significant internal and external reporting.

About the Opportunity

Within our Corporate & Institutional Banking division, the Strategic Debt Finance (SDF) Asset Management team plays a critical role in managing some of the most sophisticated and high value lending relationships in the market. We work at the sharp end of credit risk, overseeing complex debt positions with private equity backed businesses and leveraged corporates.

As Associate Director, you’ll step into a role that blends commercial insight with hands‑on portfolio management. You’ll lead client engagement, navigate complex credit events and help shape the risk and return profile of a dynamic portfolio. This is a chance to work on transactions that matter, influence strategic outcomes and collaborate across the Group to unlock new opportunities.

Key Accountabilities
  • Lead a portfolio of existing private equity backed and leveraged corporate clients
  • Monitor clients financial performance, covenants and ESG factors to assess credit quality
  • Lead credit events including covenant resets, amendments and incremental facilities
  • Find opportunities to enhance the Bank’s risk/reward profile
  • Collaborate with clients, private equity sponsors, coverage teams and internal stakeholders to support refinancing and new business
  • Contribute to internal and regulatory reporting and support wider team initiatives
What You'll Need
  • Background in credit risk management and leveraged finance, within a large financial institution
  • Strong financial analysis and risk assessment skills, including understanding of client trading information and financial accounts
  • Experience managing complex client relationships and transactions
  • Familiarity with leveraged finance structuring, private equity sponsors and ESG considerations
  • Effective communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Experience supporting or leading colleagues in a team environment
