Job summary

AtkinsRéalis in the UK is seeking an Associate Director Mechanical Engineer to lead a team delivering design work for water infrastructure projects. You will shape solutions for pumping systems, water and wastewater treatment, and multi-disciplinary schemes across the UK and internationally.

The role offers hybrid working with 3 days office/site based, and opportunities to influence practice-wide initiatives, mentor engineers, and collaborate with clients and stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Chartered Mechanical Engineer status.
  • Experience leading large-scale mechanical design delivery.
  • Knowledge of design standards and CDM/DSEAR.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of mechanical engineers for delivery of design work on complex multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Develop project design deliverables for mechanical aspects of projects and manage time and budgets.
  • Review and approve technical deliverables such as design reports and drawings.
  • Provide technical leadership within the D&AT practice and drive best practices.
  • Grow and manage the mechanical engineering capabilities regionally and nationally.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in the UK and overseas to deliver integrated designs.

Your role

As an Associate DirectorMechanicalEngineer in the D&AT practice, the successful candidate would have the following responsibilities:

  • Lead a team ofMechanicalengineers for delivery of technical design workon complex multi-disciplinary projects following relevant national and project specific designcodes and standards, and to high-quality levels in areas such aspumping systems and water & wastewater treatment design.
  • Lead on the development of project design deliverables forMechanicalaspects of complexmulti-disciplinary projects and work with the project management team to successfully manage time and budgets to key project milestones andprogrammes.
  • Responsible for managing production, reviewing, and approving technical deliverables such as designreports, drawings, calculations, and scopes of work.
  • Provide Technical Leadership within discipline for the regional and national D&AT practice and influence D&AT Practice wide initiatives and recommend best practices to improve internalprocess and services.
  • Grow, develop,and manage theMechanicalEngineering capabilitieswithin the regionaland/ornationallypractice.
  • Work independently with guidance in only the most challenging situations.Exercise personal judgement to solve difficult problems whereappropriateand provide guidance to junior team members.
  • Advise client, operational, project, or service activities within project teams and wider D&AT Practice initiatives.
  • Manage or collaborate ontechnical aspects of bid proposals.
  • Work closely with a multi-disciplinary team in the UK and overseas to deliver integrated design solutions.
About you
  • A degree inMechanicalEngineering or equivalent.
  • CharteredMechanicalEngineer.
  • Proven experience in leading large-scale Mechanicalengineering design delivery for a design consultancy including within a multi-disciplinary environment.
  • Takes broad perspective to identify innovative solutions, challenges the status quo.
  • The role requires comprehensive knowledge and proven practical experience in thedesign integration of a wide range of mechanical equipment, including pumps, blowers, screens, and chemical dosing systems. Additionally, it demands a thorough understanding of current UK design standards, relevant legislation, and established industry practices.
  • Demonstrates exemplary communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts clearly and effectively to diverse stakeholders.
  • Expert knowledge of current design codes and standards as well as industry best practices including a strong understanding of legislation such as CDM and DSEAR.
  • Proficiency in applicable analytical software and related tools.
  • Experience inWater market isessential.
  • A proactive, highly motivated mindset with a collaborative approach to drive teamwork andshared success across projects and the widerAtkinsRéalisD&AT practice.
  • Comfortable liaising with stakeholders at all levels both internally and externally.
