AtkinsRéalis seeks an Associate Director ICA Engineering in the UK to lead a multi-disciplinary design team delivering Electrical & ICA solutions for major water sector projects. The role is based in Cambridge with hybrid working, and opportunities to contribute to landmark infrastructure.

You will provide technical leadership, manage budgets, and ensure design delivery to client and industry standards while collaborating across AtkinsRéalis teams and with clients.

We are looking for an energetic and experienced Associate Director ICA Engineering to join our team within the Design & Advanced Technology (D&AT) Practice of AtkinsRéalis. You’ll be part of a talented, multi-disciplinary team delivering cutting edge, iconic projects to our Water market clients – clients such as Thames Water, Anglian Water, South East Water, Southern Water, as well as other regional water authorities.

As a key member of our team, you’ll play a vital role in delivering transformational programmes for critical UK infrastructure, with opportunities to work on landmark engineering projects both domestically and internationally. We offer hybrid working which involves 3 days per week being office/site based. This position is based in our Epsom, Peterborough or Cambridge offices.

As an ICA Engineering Associate Director in the D&AT practice, the successful candidate would have the following responsibilities:

• Own and direct a team of Electrical & ICA engineers for delivery of technical design work on complex multi-disciplinary projects following relevant client and project specific design codes and standards, and to high-quality levels.
• Successfully manage time and budgets of the Electrical & ICA team to key project milestones and programmes.
• Responsible for directing and reviewing technical deliverables such as Single Line Diagrams, Cable Block Diagrams, Load Schedules, MCC specifications, Control Philosophies, Control Network Architecture.
• Provide technical leadership into project design deliverables for ICA aspects of complex multi-disciplinary projects and work with the project management team to successfully manage time and budgets to key project milestones and programmes.
• Collaborate with client, operational, project, or service activities within your immediate team and other related AtkinsRéalis teams.
• Provide direction and guidance to Senior and Principal colleagues.
• Lead the growth of local Electrical & ICA team and the wider Electrical & ICA technical network.
• Work independently with minimal technical guidance. Exercise personal judgement to solve difficult problems where appropriate and provide guidance to Senior and Principal team members.
• Provide technical support and direction for bid proposals.
• Work closely with multi-disciplinary teams in the UK and overseas to deliver integrated design solutions.
• Setting quality assurance standards in design and ensure compliance from Electrical & ICA teams.
• Leading business development initiatives to drive growth of water market.

About you

• A degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• Chartered Engineer.
• Proven experience in leading or directing an Electrical & ICA engineering design delivery team for a design consultancy including within a multi-disciplinary environment.
• Takes broad perspective to identify innovative solutions to design problems.
• Requires comprehensive knowledge and practical experience in ICA designs.
• Extensive knowledge of water company design codes and standards as well as industry best practices, such as WIMES.
• Strong awareness of HAZOP assessments, lightning strike risk assessments, earthing and bonding, lighting designs, DSEAR and ATEX installation practices.
• Ability to work independently with minimal technical guidance.
• Experience in water market is preferred but not required.
• Experience in industrial and process environment is essential.
• Demonstrates strong communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts clearly and effectively within diverse multi-disciplinary teams.
• A proactive, highly motivated mindset with a collaborative approach to drive teamwork and shared success across projects.
