A global financial information firm is seeking a Fundamentals Analyst to cover global power markets. The role involves maintaining power outlooks and delivering forecasts while managing junior staff and collaborating with other commodity analysts. Ideal candidates will have significant experience in the power sector, strong quantitative skills, and a relevant degree. Comprehensive healthcare and wellness benefits are offered.
Fundamentals analyst covering global power markets
Maintain power demand outlooks for major countries and regions globally
Deliver power generation outlooks by technology for major countries and regions globally
Produce high quality price forecasts for power markets globally
Maintain models to show and forecast key relationships within the power sector (eg. coal-gas competition)
Have a strong knowledge of the power sector, power markets around the world, and their regulatory environment. You’ll maintain supporting deliverables as appropriate (eg. regulatory summaries, databases, etc).
Maintain and/or contribute to monthly and weekly metallurgical coal deliverables, as well as leading bespoke consulting engagements.
Work closely with analysts from other related commodities (eg. coal, gas, renewables, carbon, hydrogen)
Be a thought leader in global power markets, maintaining views on key power market development (eg. the evolving Energy Transition, regulatory changes, reliability, etc).
Be a skilled presenter, doing everything from conference presentations to client presentations
Work with sales on developing and pursuing leads and aiding retention
Significant demonstrable experience in the power/electricity industries and/or markets.
Strong quantitative skills (strong MS Excel and VBA, knowledge of Python and Power BI advantageous)
Exemplary written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to present to a high standard.
Ability to lead others – this role will likely involve managing junior staff
Strong organisational skills with attention to detail.
Ability to work within a team while sometimes operating alone
Bachelor’s degree (in a quantitative discipline preferred)
