The Role: S&P Global Commodity Insights is recruiting for the role of European Olefins Associate Director. This role is an opportunity to develop and grow a market analytics and consulting business line, leading our research into a core group of strategically important petrochemical products. The successful candidate will be expected to provide strategic direction for the product line, as we continue to grow the business and expand our value chain coverage. Externally they will become the “face” of S&P Global Commodity Insights olefins business in Europe, whilst internally they will be a critical member of a highly influential team of industry experts.

Responsibilities
  • Provide thought leadership in the European olefins business
  • Lead ethylene and propylene market outlooks including supply/demand balances, trade flows, and price forecasts
  • Build and maintain long‑term relationships with key industry associations, customers and market participants
  • Attend regular industry events such as EPL, EPCA, etc.
  • Direct analytical and modelling activities within the Olefins product line
  • Collaborate with other individuals and teams to ensure accuracy and timeliness of information and publications to clients
  • Engage with clients as necessary, supporting requests for insight, data and analysis

We are seeking an expert with deep market and subject matter expertise of European ethylene, propylene and related markets. The successful candidate will have commercial or corporate planning experience, will have excellent communication skills, and bring with them a network of industry contacts. The successful candidate joins at a time of unprecedented change within the industry, with climate change, energy transition and plastic waste gaining ever‑increasing importance in reporting and decision‑making. The successful candidate will be expected to provide thought leadership on how European cracker operations will change in the face of increased cost and environmental pressures. The team is looking to leverage S&P Global’s wider expertise and experience in emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. The right candidate will be able to influence the role that these technologies play in revolutionising the ways that we gather and deliver market intelligence. The candidate may have already spent time in market research and consulting roles as a specialist, or been a commercial leader within the olefins industry. Entrepreneurial and with the gravitas to represent the organization across the C‑suite, world‑class presentation skills are a requirement for the candidate to represent the company as a keynote speaker at industry events. The candidate will be expected to travel internationally and the location is our London office.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Polymer Science or suitable numerate discipline; MBA an advantage
  • 15+ years of career experience in a chemical operating company, market research or consulting business
  • Significant experience in market intelligence, strategic/production planning, writing of detailed market or technical reports, and team leadership
  • Career tenure spanning multiple roles
  • Strong technical understanding of cracker operations and market perspectives
  • Strong data manipulation, modelling and analytical skills, with keen attention to detail
  • Experience and/or knowledge of petrochemical processes, petrochemical feedstocks, derivatives and end‑use markets
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing/marketing and capital investment economics
  • Strong customer/client interaction skills while exhibiting a high degree of empathy
  • Demonstrated track record of team collaboration and achieving results
