Job summary

Jobtailor in the United Kingdom is seeking an experienced Senior Contaminated Land Consultant to lead land quality assessments across major infrastructure projects. You will manage Phase 1 Desk Studies, Phase 2 Site Investigations, remediation design and verification, and guide multidisciplinary teams while ensuring health and safety compliance and client relationship excellence.

You will also contribute to bid work, coordinate with regulators, and mentor junior staff while maintaining quality

Qualifications

  • Chartered or SiLC membership preferred; professional accreditation expected.
  • Significant project delivery experience in contaminated land consultancy.
  • Strong leadership, communication and client-relations skills.

Job description

  • Provide technical leadership on land quality assessments for major infrastructure projects
  • Lead Phase 1 Desk Studies, Phase 2 Site Investigations, remediation design and verification/validation
  • Coordinate, technically deliver and review land quality and geology and soils assessments for EIAs and planning and consenting processes, including DCO applications
  • Manage project delivery, programme management, financial performance, quality assurance and technical review
  • Partner with clients, stakeholders, regulators, subcontractors and internal disciplines
  • Deliver consistent and integrated services within multidisciplinary teams
  • Support business development through opportunity review, proposal preparation, tender submissions and client relationship management
  • Provide technical guidance, support and mentoring to junior staff
  • Ensure compliance with Health and Safety policies and procedures
  • Maintain and develop technical competence through continuing professional development
Requirements
  • Higher education qualification in a relevant engineering or science subject, such as geology, geography, earth sciences, soil science, hydrogeology or environmental science
  • Full or Chartered Membership of a relevant professional body; preferably SiLC and/or QP
  • Significant experience in project delivery within a contaminated land consultancy environment
  • Strong technical, people and project management skills
  • Track record of winning and delivering high-profile work
  • Experience leading and delivering contaminated land scopes, including Phase 1 Desk Studies, Phase 2 Site Investigations, remediation design and verification/validation
  • Understanding of relevant legislation, technical guidance, industry standards and best practice for contaminated land, materials management, EIA, planning and consenting
  • Strong working knowledge of EIA, planning and consenting, including DCO scoping, relating to land quality, geology and soils
  • Commercial awareness and understanding of internal project commercial governance and tenders
  • Customer-focused with good relationship management skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Proven ability to manage and mentor staff
  • Ability to manage time and work effectively independently and as part of a team
  • Ideally, experience managing GIS data and AGS data on large projects
  • May require security clearance and proof of UK residency for 5 years or longer
