Role Title : Associate Director Asset Finance
Role location : London

This opportunity sits in our London office working for Westpac Institutional Bank (WIB) the division of Westpac which services the needs of our corporate institutional and governmental clients. We are a leading provider of wholesale banking services in our region with an increasing presence in the Northern Hemisphere.

How will I help

The Asset Finance team is responsible for the origination structuring pricing and documentation of asset‑secured financing solutions for WIB customers. These are typically secured loans with recourse to large corporates (mostly public companies or private companies of equivalent scale) in the aviation shipping rail land transport natural resources diversified industries technology defence and other industry sectors.

Key responsibilities

You will lead the origination and execution of complex asset finance opportunities by evaluating the credit quality and structural integrity of transactions across multiples sectors asset classes and jurisdictions. Our typical commitment size is US$50‑200million equivalent. Transactions may be syndicated facilities club deals or bilateral loans. Borrowers include both owner‑operators and lessors and will be a mix of new‑to‑bank and existing WIB customers.

Transactions are typically secured on large‑ticket strategic assets such as aircraft ships and other maritime assets rail buses trucks yellow goods mining equipment industrial equipment & plant real estate synthetic leases data centre equipment etc.

This role will report to Director Asset Finance in Sydney and locally to Director Asset Finance in New York and will primarily be focused on asset finance transactions in UK and Europe as well as supporting the New York team as they build out their business.

What do I need
  • The preferred candidate will be a self‑motivated team player with strong initiative drive and high customer service values preferably with many years of banking experience.
  • Track record in leading asset finance specific or complex debt transactions in the industry sectors outlined above. Broad experience across a number of these industry sectors is highly desirable. Ship finance experience is particularly desirable (although ship finance is unlikely to constitute a majority of the deal flow).
  • Strong understanding of corporate credit and the key credit drivers for banks.
  • Knowledge of customer and investor markets.
  • Loan structuring skills and documentation experience.
  • Understanding of legal operational and credit concepts.
  • Ability to develop and maintain a comprehensive investor / bank network.
  • Proven ability to build trust and rapport with internal stakeholders across diverse functions.
