Job summary

WSP is seeking an Associate or Associate Director to lead structural engineering services for major energy infrastructure projects in the UK, including substations and transmission/distribution networks. You will manage project teams, drive technical excellence, and build strong client relationships in a senior role.

The role offers hybrid and flexible working arrangements, with opportunities to shape national infrastructure and mentor engineers while delivering innovative, sustainable design

Qualifications

• Chartered Engineer (CEng) with a relevant professional body.
• Significant experience in structural engineering design and project leadership.
• Ideally experience in substations, transmission and distribution infrastructure, power stations or petrochemical facilities.
• Proven ability to manage complex projects and lead multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong commercial awareness and client-facing skills.
• Excellent communication, leadership and stakeholder engagement capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic input into project planning, resourcing and risk management.
• Deliver structural solutions for substations, transmission and distribution facilities, OHL structures and power stations.

A little more about your role…

As an Associate or Associate Director, you will take a senior leadership role in the delivery of structural engineering services for major energy infrastructure projects. These include Transmission and Distribution networks, Overhead Line (OHL) systems, power stations, and other critical energy assets.

You will be responsible for leading project teams, managing client relationships, and driving technical excellence and innovation across our portfolio.

Lead and oversee the structural design and delivery of complex energy infrastructure projects.

Provide strategic input into project planning, resourcing, and risk management.

Deliver structural solutions for substations, transmission and distribution facilities, OHL structures, and power stations.

Build and maintain strong client relationships, acting as a trusted advisor.

Mentor and develop junior engineers and technicians, fostering a culture of technical excellence.

Contribute to business development, including bids, proposals, and client presentations.

We’re looking for an experienced leader with a strong technical foundation and a passion for infrastructure.

Essential Qualifications & Experience:

Chartered Engineer (CEng) with a relevant professional body.

Significant experience in structural engineering design and project leadership.

Ideally, experience in one or more of the following:

Substations

Transmission and Distribution infrastructure

Power stations

Petrochemical facilities

Proven ability to manage complex projects and lead multidisciplinary teams.

Strong commercial awareness and client-facing skills.

Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder engagement capabilities.
