Job summary

WSP is seeking an Associate/Associate Director to lead the structural engineering delivery for Civil infrastructure projects in Birmingham. You will steer project teams, manage client relationships, and drive technical excellence and innovation in bridge design.

The role requires Chartered Civil or Structural Engineer with extensive post-qualification experience, strong leadership, and a proven ability to manage complex bridge projects, with emphasis on Eurocodes, safety, and collaboration.

• Support business development through strategic proposals, bids, and client presentations.
• Ensure compliance with Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) standards and regulatory requirements across all projects.

What we will be looking for you to demonstrate…

We’re looking for an experienced leader with a strong technical background and a passion for bridge engineering. It is expected that you will be a Chartered Civil or Structural Engineer with extensive post professional qualification experience. It is expected that this experience will include the following:

• Proven ability to manage complex projects
• Practical knowledge and experience of bridge design, maintenance and assessment
• Practical knowledge and experience of project management of bridge projects
• Proven knowledge in design, maintenance and supervision of structures related projects together with a track record of innovation in design and management of structures. Ideally this should include new build, maintenance, assessment and strengthening of bridges and civil structures infrastructure
• Strong commercial awareness and client-facing skills
• Understanding and experience of use of Eurocodes and their application to bridge design
• Good communication and interpersonal skills are essential
