Job description

Associate Actuarial Consultant – Pensions Consolidation Solutions

We’re growing and want you to be a part of our journey.

Our Actuarial & Consulting Team

As part of this role, you’ll be working in Isio’s Actuarial & Consulting team, consisting of over 400 pensions consultants and actuaries advising a diverse range of clients and stakeholders across the private, public and not-for-profit sectors.

We advise on everything from helping trustees and sponsors to manage their defined benefit plans, running large scale communications projects and implementing alternative reward and pension provision. The range of work we get involved with is vast and there’ll be opportunities for you to gain lots of great, new experiences and put your skills to the test.

This role will be as part of the Enplan Team - Enplan is one of the fastest growing DB Pension consolidators in the market. The team are currently managing over 60 pension schemes of different shapes and sizes and continue to regularly attract new schemes.

If you have a solid grounding in working in the UK Pensions actuarial market, then this is a great place to develop your actuarial skills – whether that’s getting more client exposure or qualified taking on Scheme Actuary appointments. It’s a fast-growing team and one that gives everyone the chance to influence how we develop the offering going forward.

What’s the role?

Day to day, you will be:

  1. Assisting in providing advice to clients, offering support for key client projects.
  2. The role requires candidates with an eye for technical detail with a particular interest to gaining exposure to a variety of technical actuarial tasks for smaller defined benefit pension schemes. Areas of work you would be involved with include Triennial actuarial valuations, company accounting disclosures, insured pensioner calculations and other actuarial modelling/calculations.
  3. Assisting in the development of new business, both with existing and new clients.

Enplan schemes vary significantly in size, therefore in your role, you will have numerous opportunities to engage and consult with schemes varying in asset size from as little as £1m to over £200m.

Where is the role?

The schemes within Enplan are serviced by a dedicated team within Isio with hubs based in Manchester and Scotland - but we are open to considering those in other locations joining the team including Birmingham, Bristol, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Leeds, London and Reading.

We work on a hybrid basis, offering the opportunity for colleagues to split their working time between working in the office and at home.

As a business we are great at building strong communities amongst our employees – both across locations and teams, hosting regular team building, charity, and social events.

Key skills and experience

We’re looking for new colleagues with the following skills and expertise – but, please do apply if you don’t hit every requirement and still think you would be great for the role. Our business is better with a diverse range of experience, so we’ll consider each application on its own merits.

  1. Enthusiasm and motivation - a great deal of desire to solving problems and delivering excellent advice.
  2. Excellent project management and client delivery skills – especially when balancing multiple demands.
  3. A great communicator – someone who can explain complex problems in a simple way to help everyone around the table understand.
  4. A great team worker – This will be as part of client project teams, in-office teams and by supporting the development of others.
  5. Commercial skills – a curious mind, to help us develop our business and look for new opportunities.
  6. Technical experience – experience of working in the UK DB pensions industry or individuals with relevant transferable actuarial skills.
  7. Qualifications – likely to be pursuing an actuarial qualification, FIA/FFA or equivalent. We also value relevant actuarial experience gained via an Apprenticeship, Internship or Industrial placement programme as beneficial, in addition to the qualifications mentioned.

Demonstrated Commitment to our Core Purpose

  1. Power in Partnership: We work in partnership with our clients & each other – building open and trusted relationships. Working together allows us to deliver the best for our clients.
  2. Future Focus: We want to push our industry forward by solving problems in better ways that benefit both our clients & society.
  3. Strength in Difference: We work with diverse perspectives to find better solutions. Working with differences makes us stronger.
  4. People First: We recognise that pensions is a people business. People are the source of Isio’s expertise and it is people’s lives that we affect through our advice.

What we offer you

Isio is a people business, and we’re committed to helping our great colleagues gain a wide variety of experience, significant development opportunities and progression through the business. The variety of work that’ll be available to you will enable you to do this.

On top, we also offer:

  1. A competitive remuneration package, including a bonus scheme.
  2. A defined contribution pension scheme.
  3. Life insurance.
  4. Healthcare benefits.
  5. Income protection benefits.
  6. 25 days annual leave (plus bank holidays) as standard with the option to purchase additional days of holiday. As well as two additional ‘Company’ days – a celebration day for your birthday and an extra day over Christmas.
  7. Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) allowance.
  8. Flexible working opportunities.
  9. A flexible benefits package.
  10. Internal development programmes including (technical and non-technical) training support and mentor programmes.
