Job summary

ECMS Limited is seeking a dedicated Assistive Technology and Literacy Specialist for a full-time on-site role in Gateshead. The post involves assessing learners’ literacy needs, recommending assistive tech, and delivering personalised intervention plans across the north of England.

You will train learners, families, and staff, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and ensure compliance with medico-legal standards while staying updated on the latest assistive technology developments.

Qualifications

• Education or teaching background or experience in the special education sector.
• Excellent communication skills, including clear written reporting and professional correspondence.
• Strong technology skills in using and configuring assistive technology, digital learning tools, and standard office software.
• Excellent organisational skills to coordinate interventions, manage caseloads, meet deadlines, and maintain accurate records.
• Relevant experience in special education, speech and language support, occupational therapy, or literacy intervention with children and young people is beneficial.
• Knowledge of acquired and traumatic brain injury, inclusive education, and accessibility best practices is desirable.
• Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams, maintain confidentiality, and adhere to safeguarding and medico-legal frameworks is essential.

Responsibilities

• Assess learners’ literacy needs and functional abilities and recommend appropriate assistive technologies and strategies.
• Design and deliver personalised literacy and technology intervention plans.
• Provide one-to-one and small group support.
• Train learners, families, and education staff in effective use of assistive tools.
• Collaborate with case managers and multidisciplinary teams; liaise with schools and Local Authorities.
• Monitor progress and update reports and documentation in line with medico-legal requirements.
• Stay current with developments in assistive technology and literacy practices to ensure effective interventions.
