Job summary

Liverpool Cathedral is seeking an Assistant Verger to support the delivery of Cathedral services, events and day-to-day operational activities. You will work under the guidance of Senior Vergers to develop the skills and knowledge required to progress to Verger level.

The role forms part of a structured development pathway over 18-24 months, offering coaching, competency assessments and regular reviews. The post holder will align with the Cathedral's values of excellence and inclusivity while

Qualifications

• Literate and numerate (a/i).
• No specific experience required; full training will be provided (a/i).
• Experience in a customer-facing environment (a/i).
• Good verbal communication skills (a/i).
• Ability to undertake physical work including lifting and moving furniture (a/i).

Responsibilities

• Assist with setup and clearing away of services.
• Support clergy and Vergers during services as directed.
• Undertake ceremonial and verging duties appropriate to competence and training.
• Assist in care and cleaning of liturgical items and silverware.
• Assist in changing altar frontals and other liturgical requirements.
• Support operational activities and events under supervision.
