Purpose of the Role
AEGIS London is currently seeking an experienced Assistant Underwriter to assist in the underwriting and development of the syndicate’s global Terrorism & Political Violence portfolio in accordance with the Syndicate’s Business Plan, class strategy, Underwriting Guidelines and personal underwriting authorities.

Duties And Accountabilities
  • To responsibly underwrite Terrorism & Political Violence business in accordance with personal underwriting authorities and the Syndicate’s underwriting procedures, referring risks to the Class Underwriter or Head of Specialty when or if required
  • To ensure that the service provided to brokers, coverholders and policyholders is of the highest standard
  • To ensure that renewals are handled with in a timely, efficient and thorough manner in line with strategic goals
  • To monitor Opal, binders, facilities and lineslips for, declarations, premium income and aggregates, including the undertaking of referrals and reviews when applicable
  • Liaise with senior underwriters, senior management, brokers, coverholders and external auditors as required
  • To process documents via AEGILITY, including quotes, submissions, renewals, endorsements and potentially new business
  • Assist Credit Control with advice regarding written to actual premium differences and liaising with brokers for cash collection and query resolution
  • Continue to develop underwriting and technical knowledge
  • To undertake business travel when appropriate in order to cultivate and maintain business relationships
  • To complete other duties as directed, including project work and the production of ad hoc reports
Skills, Knowledge And Experience
  • A working knowledge of the Terrorism / PV market, including comprehension of policy wordings, coverages, premium rates and risk factors
  • Strong geopolitical interests; including a sophisticated understanding of regional and global security environments
  • The ability to work collegiately as part of a team, as well as individually when required
  • Well developed social skills with the ability to forge and maintain long-term relationships with key stakeholders
  • Excellent organisational and planning skills, including the ability to prioritise and manage time effectively
  • Strong negotiation and decision-making skills
  • Good presentation and communication skills
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Preferably making progress towards ACII completion, or prepared to study towards ACII
  • Degree level or similar in a relevant subject field would be advantageous
