Assistant Underwriter, Property – Chubb Global Markets

The CGM Property division is seeking an enthusiastic and driven individual to join their US Open Market team. As Assistant Underwriter, you will support the underwriters with day-to-day administrative and technical responsibilities, develop your own underwriting abilities, and take ownership of key operational functions. You will build technical and broader business skills in this specialist product line, working closely with experienced Underwriters.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support Underwriters in gathering and preparing information for new business and renewals, ensuring coverage aligns with customer needs, risk profiles, and Chubb’s guidelines.
  • Assist with risk assessment, catastrophe modelling, and pricing, applying critical thinking and data insights to support sound underwriting decisions.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers, internal teams, and distribution partners through effective communication and proactive service.
  • Prepare reports on production, exposure, and rate movement, and interpret data to identify trends and inform portfolio management.
  • Document underwriting rationale, risk factors, and decision‑making processes in line with company and regulatory requirements.
  • Utilize Chubb’s digital tools and software to enhance underwriting analysis, operational efficiency, and cross‑selling opportunities.
  • Participate in technical presentations, training, and continuous learning to develop business presentation skills and stay adaptable to market and regulatory changes.
  • Prioritize tasks and manage workflow to meet deadlines, demonstrating strong organisational and problem‑solving skills.
  • Contribute to negotiation and opportunity management by supporting business proposals and reaching mutually beneficial agreements.
  • Any other ad hoc duties allocated by the Line Manager.
Skill & Experience Required
  • Minimum of two years of experience in the London or Lloyd’s market, preferably in Property.
  • Minimum A levels, preferably higher‑level qualification such as a degree.
  • Willingness to study for or already started professional examinations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and familiar with CAT models, Primary and XOL, and rating models.
  • Ability to demonstrate a logical approach to processes and problems, including critical thinking and problem‑solving.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills, with effective time management and prioritisation abilities.
  • Understanding of contract terminology, risk selection principles, and pricing methodologies.
  • Ability to build relationships, deliver premium service, and demonstrate sales acumen.
