Purpose of the Role

AEGIS London have a vacancy in the Cargo Underwriting team for a high performing and ambitious Assistant Underwriter. This is an excellent opportunity for an Underwriting Assistant currently operating within Cargo looking to advance their career or an Assistant Underwriter in this line of business looking to join a high performing syndicate.

Duties And Accountabilities
  • To underwrite in accordance with personal underwriting authority and the Syndicate’s underwriting procedures and class underwriting guidelines
  • To assist with the completion of submissions, quotes and slips in an accurate and timely fashion
  • Undertake checks and reviews on any binding authorities and lineslips to ensure procedures are complete and meet set requirements
  • Undertake both broker and client visits as required
  • Liaise with underwriters, senior management, brokers, cover holders and external auditors as required
  • Provide assistance to Credit Control with advice regarding written to actual premium differences and liaising with brokers for cash collection and query resolution
  • Liaise with the Aggregations Team for RMS modelling of risks and ensure the accurate entry of aggregate information, if required
  • Generate ad hoc reports and analyse data to maximise the team’s knowledge
  • To assist with the production of internal and external presentations
  • Continue to develop knowledge and experience in the respective class of business
  • To complete other adhoc duties as directed
Skills, Knowledge And Experience
  • Experience of working within Cargo market is essential and exposure to Specie would be advantageous
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritise workload and complete tasks in a timely, accurate and organised manner
  • Ability to work effectively within a team and on an individual basis
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • A solid understanding of the Lloyd’s and/or London market
  • Part ACII qualified or working towards ACII.
  • Good understanding of Microsoft Office Suite
