Job summary

Faraday Underwriting Limited, part of the General Re Corporation, has an excellent opportunity for an Assistant Underwriter in our Specialist Lines team at Lloyd's. The role supports growth and portfolio management of Casualty business across North America and other markets.

You will underwrite new and renewal Casualty business, develop broker relationships, and work with pricing, actuarial, and claims teams. A progression towards ACII and existing underwriting authority are desirable.

Qualifications

• Experience in the Casualty Insurance market is desirable.
• Progress towards ACII

• Binder, lineslip and open market experience desirable.
• Technical knowledge of wordings and typical claim scenarios.
• MS Excel and MS Office proficiency are essential.

Responsibilities

We have an excellent opportunity for an Assistant Underwriter in our Specialist Lines team.

Main purpose of role

To support the Specialist Lines Insurance and Delegated Authority (US Casualty) team in the growth and portfolio management of the account by underwriting new and renewal Casualty business. The Specialist Lines team underwrites a diversified portfolio of Casualty risks and supports clients across North America via reinsurance, open market and delegated distribution channels.

Key Responsibilities

To assist in the underwriting of the portfolio at Lloyd’s, including the following tasks:

• Review underwriting submissions, populate rating models, review wordings.
• Meeting existing and potential clients both in group presentations and 1:1 meetings.
• Manage underwriting administration ensuring business is conducted in accordance with internal requirements.
• Maintaining existing and developing new broker relationships.
• Develop a full understanding of pricing models used by the team and work with the rest of the team and actuaries in their continued improvement.
• Function independently with limited direction over time whilst benefiting from the team’s collaborative approach to underwriting.
• Support the team to identify, define, and pursue new business opportunities to secure long-term, profitable relationships with clients and brokers.
• Help the team review, evaluate and oversee new and renewal business and coverage requests based upon company underwriting guidelines, competition, and geographic focus.
• Maintain and grow market presence through regular broker engagement. Solicit new accounts, gather market intelligence, and provide up to date department information relating to products and services.
• Perform all necessary travel as required for client meetings and marketing.
• Consult with the claims team to monitor loss trends.
• Work closely with actuarial team in modelling individual accounts and binders.
• Work closely with DUA team on new and renewal binder, lineslip opportunities and coverholder compliance.
• Demonstrating a positive attitude and strong value system (e.g., integrity, trustworthiness, respectful).
• Continuously improve own skills and knowledge.

Qualifications & Experience

• Experience within the Casualty Insurance market is desirable.
• Progress towards ACII
• Existing underwriting authority and broker relationships.
• Prior experience of binder, lineslip and open market business is desirable.
• Technical expertise especially knowledge of wordings and typical claim scenarios.
• IT Skills within the MS Suite of products, particularly Excel, are essential.
