About the Role:

This is an opportunity for an individual looking for a challenging and exciting role. We are seeking to appoint an Assistant Technical Officer with a Sport Science background to work in our Sport & Physiology Team, supporting students and staff across the Faculty of Science & Engineering. Manchester Metropolitan University has invested in a state-of-the-art building, located at 99 Oxford Rd. This role will support the development of the Manchester Metropolitan Institute of Sport at Oxford Rd and the new Dalton building. The role is fixed term for 1 year, and is Term Time Only (36 working weeks per year) covering maternity leave.

The role holder will have a pivotal role, predominantly supporting Sport Science disciplines ensuring:

  • specialist spaces are safe,
  • equipment is maintained to a high standard,
  • effective booking routines and procedures are adhered to,
  • delivery of high-quality teaching, research and widening participation outputs.
About You:

You will have experience with operating in a busy laboratory environment, proficient with a range of techniques related to sport science. This will be a busy role, in a fast-paced environment, and the post holder will be expected to deliver high standards of customer service, be adaptable, quickly assimilate information, fix equipment, control stock, manage booking routines and establish networks with technical services colleagues, academic staff, and most important, support our students.

Support will be provided for the faculties wider operations as required. This could involve work in other laboratories and teaching spaces, including large-scale projects that have specific deadlines.

You will have a flexible approach to work and an ability to work on your own initiative. Strong communication skills and a commitment to quality service will also play an important role in being successful in this post.

In addition to joining a great team in a varied role, this role is term-time only, including working a few weeks outside of semester time.
