Assistant Technical Manager

They are seeking an ambitious Assistant Technical Manager to support their expanding operations in Northampton. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role within a forward-thinking technical team, with a clear career path towards becoming a Technical Manager.

The Role

Reporting to the Technical Manager, you’ll ensure that all products leaving our site are safe, legal, authentic, and meet customer and consumer expectations. You’ll bring expertise across food safety, compliance, and quality systems, supporting audits and driving continuous improvement. Within 12 months, you’ll be expected to competently deputise for the Technical Manager.

Key Responsibilities
  • Champion food safety culture and quality across site operation
  • Provide advanced technical support across all functions (supplier assurance, quality systems, product development)
  • Maintain site certifications (BRCGS, RT, Organic, BMPA) through audits, compliance checks, and system reviews
  • Lead on internal audits, hygiene improvements, labelling compliance, and technical investigations
  • Respond to technical queries from customers, auditors, and regulators
  • Support and contribute to staff training, development, and continuous improvement initiatives
About You
  • You will be a motivated technical or quality professional with the ambition to step into a future Technical Manager role.
  • A degree (or higher) in Food Science, Microbiology, or a related field
  • Experience of BRC and retailer audits, with knowledge of retailer standards
  • Strong technical skills across core quality and compliance functions
  • Proven supervisory or technical management experience (chilled, high-risk preferred)
  • A proactive, solutions-focused mindset with a passion for continuous improvement
