Job description
Role Overview

As an Assistant Technical Co-ordinator / Chemist at FCC Environment, you will assist the Waste Treatment Division Commercial Team with the technical assessment of enquiries, preparation of transportation documentation, collation of data for site records, and preparation of data for invoicing. You will play a key role in ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards, and support the efficient and safe operation of our waste treatment facilities.

Assisting with the technical control activities of the sales enquiry process, ensuring legal compliance and good practice.

Responsibilities
  • Interpreting waste data to determine composition, safe handling, disposal requirements, and correct classification
  • Gathering information from waste producers and customers to make valid judgments on waste composition
  • Obtaining and negotiating third‑party quotes and setting prices to meet business goals
  • Negotiating with suppliers of waste management services to control costs and meet site targets
  • Developing working relationships with customers to meet revenue targets
  • Advising customers on waste regulations, safe packaging, and the handling of their waste
  • Assisting with the implementation of Health and Safety Policy, SHE Manual, and statutory regulations
  • Preparing transport and waste documentation, and advising drivers and clients
  • Ensuring activities related to waste movement conform to legal requirements and budgeted costs
  • Maintaining flexible working arrangements to maximise operational efficiency
  • Supporting compliance with all relevant company and statutory environmental requirements
Qualifications
  • Degree in chemistry or a related subject
  • Experience in the hazardous waste treatment industry or chemical industry (advantageous)
  • Knowledge of the transport of hazardous goods (advantageous)
  • Confident in using the MS Office suite
  • The ability to understand complex legal documents
  • Strong problem‑solving skills, using chemical hazard and properties information to determine safe handling and disposal methods
  • The ability to work both as part of a small team under supervision and independently, managing your own workload
  • Customer‑focused and able to communicate confidently with people at all levels
  • Flexible attitude to work, especially during peak times
