Our Financial Control & Accounting team is central to this vision, dedicated to upholding financial integrity and supporting operations across our global business. We are now inviting a motivated Assistant Tax Accountant to bring their passion for precision and integrity to our tax team. In this role, you will help manage tax returns and ensure compliance with evolving regulations. With tasks spanning VAT, corporate tax, and PAYE Settlement Agreement returns, you’ll become an essential contributor in month‑end tax reporting and statutory accounts. Supported by the team, you’ll be encouraged to develop new skills and bring forward ideas that can streamline our processes and enhance our impact. You will report to the Tax Manager and work closely with the Tax Accountant as part of a small, close‑knit team within the wider Financial Control & Accounting function.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare VAT returns for Volvo Group UK Ltd, Renault Truck Commercials Ltd, BRS Ltd and overseas entities with UK and Irish VAT registrations.
  • Assist with corporate tax return preparation by analysing expenses and supporting accurate liability calculations.
  • Support the preparation and submission of UK and Irish Intrastat returns and EC Sales Lists.
  • Help prepare PAYE Settlement Agreement returns by reviewing expenditure on entertainment and gifts.
  • Investigate and validate VAT treatment on invoices, ensuring correct application and compliance.
  • Review duties paid, manage recharges and complete balance sheet reconciliations of tax accounts.
  • Support HMRC audits and information requests when required.
  • Provide general support across tax‑related areas, contributing to process improvement within the team.
Qualifications
  • Currently pursuing or holding a tax or accountancy qualification.
  • Detail‑oriented, organised and motivated to learn, with a genuine interest in finance and continuous improvement.
  • Commitment to building professional qualifications such as CIMA, ACCA or CTA; study support will be provided.
  • Previous experience within a finance team, where you’ve gained an understanding of core financial processes.
  • Confident Excel skills, including pivot tables and lookups, and the ability to interpret data accurately.
  • Familiarity with financial systems such as SAP, or the ability to pick up new systems quickly.
  • An interest in Power BI and a desire to learn how to use it for data visualisation and reporting.
  • Curiosity to learn more about tax and accounting regulations and apply that knowledge in practice.
  • Strong attention to detail and a methodical, organised approach to your work.
