Job summary

Booker is seeking an Assistant Shift Manager to join our fast-paced transport team. You will help deliver the daily plan, oversee loading activities and manage attendance records, while supporting the Shift Manager across all transport operations.

You’ll collaborate with warehouse teams, monitor compliance, conduct driver checks and lead routine staff meetings to maintain smooth shift performance.

Qualifications

• Educated to GCSE level or equivalent.
• Office/administrative experience at management level.
• High confidentiality, accuracy and communication.
• Ability to lead and develop a team.
• Technical capability with systems and process flows.

Responsibilities

• Oversee dispatch board, monitor arrivals and ensure departures.
• Manage and report colleague absences.
• Coordinate with staffing agencies to fill gaps.
• Conduct meetings including welfare checks, investigations and hearings.
• Support transport compliance standards enforcement.
• Collaborate with warehouse to resolve loading issues.
• Perform routine driver licence checks for compliance.
• Assign and track vehicles using fleet systems.
• Prepare and process reports on driver infringements.
• Investigate personal and vehicle incidents.
• Provide operational support across transport function as needed.

We are looking for an Assistant Shift Manager to Join our fast-paced, reactive transport team. You’ll play a key role in delivering the daily plan, overseeing loading activities, and managing attendance and absence records.

You’ll also support the Shift Manager across all areas of transport operations and people management, helping ensure smooth and compliant performance throughout the shift.

You will be responsible for

• Manage and report colleague absences effectively
• Coordinate with staffing agencies to fill operational gaps as needed
• Conduct colleague meetings, including welfare check-ins, investigations, and disciplinary hearings
• Support the monitoring and enforcement of legal transport compliance standards
• Collaborate with the warehouse team to resolve loading and operational issues
• Perform routine driver licence checks to ensure compliance
• Assign and track vehicles using the fleet monitoring system
• Prepare and process reports related to driver infringements
• Investigate personal and vehicle incidents
• Provide operational support across all areas of the transport function as required

You will need

Essential:

• Educated to GCSE level or equivalent
• Office and administrative experience at management level
• High degree of confidentiality, accuracy & effective communication
• Ability to lead an effective team
• Ability to challenge influence and give feedback
• Technical capability around systems and process flows
• Intermediate level of all Microsoft packages
• Ability to build effective relationships within & across departments
• High level of problem solving and resilience
• Tachomaster and Microlise experience

Desirable:

• CPC trained qualification
• SAP experience
