A leading healthcare trust in London is seeking a Band 5 Assistant Service Manager for the Radiology department. The role involves supporting the day-to-day operations and managing administrative teams to enhance service delivery. This position offers a salary range of £37,259 to £45,356 per annum, pro rata inclusive of HCAS (Inner).

Assistant Service Manager - Radiology

Radiology is a high-demand, multi-site service that delivers thousands of diagnostic appointments each week. To keep pace with rising demand and ensure patients receive a safe, efficient service, we are looking for a Band 5 Assistant Service Manager to join our leadership team.

As one of two ASMs in Radiology, the post holder will work closely with the Service Manager to support the day‑to‑day running of the department. The role is central to maintaining an effective and resilient administrative workforce, developing staff, and helping deliver service improvements that support both departmental and Trust priorities.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will support the Service Manager in ensuring the service is meeting both department objectives and the strategic corporate objectives of the organisation. The post holder will be operationally responsible alongside another Assistant Service Manager for designated areas within the service and will provide management support to administration staff within Radiology. The two Assistant Service Managers will deputise, where appropriate, for the Service Manager in their absence. The Assistant Service Managers are responsible for the operational delivery of a range of functions in the Radiology Care Group and line managing groups of Admin and Clerical specialists and leaders.

Qualifications and Training
  • Educated to Level 4 (e.g. HNC/Diploma) or equivalent relevant experience
  • Evidence of ongoing professional and personal development

  • Detailed knowledge of NHS performance targets and policies (e.g. RTT, Cancer Pathways)
  • Awareness of clinical governance principles and commitment to patient safety and service quality
  • Understanding of equality, diversity and inclusion in staff and patient care
  • Knowledge of Radiology IT systems (e.g. PACS, Soliton, iClip) or equivalent clinical/scheduling systems
  • Good understanding of the changing NHS environment
