Job summary

Sky is hiring an experienced accountant to deliver accurate month-end close for assigned entities, ensuring a complete and reconciled general ledger with strong controls. You will be the main contact for the process area, linking offshore RTR with UK finance stakeholders.

The role covers journals, balance sheet and P&L analysis, intercompany activity and collaboration with FP&A, Tax and Audit teams. We offer a hybrid working model with two days in the office weekly, based in Livingston, with Sky

Qualifications

• Part-qualified accountant (CIMA, ACCA or ACA) or qualified by experience.
• Experience in month-end close and balance sheet reconciliations in a large or complex organisation.
• Strong understanding of double-entry accounting and financial controls.
• Good Excel skills and experience with an ERP system (SAP preferred).

Responsibilities

• Prepare and review month-end journals, accruals, prepayments and reclassifications.
• Ensure ledger results are complete, accurate and on time; explain material variances.
• Own or review balance sheet reconciliations; investigate reconciling items.
• Manage intercompany balances and settlement; resolve mismatches.
• Support fixed asset accounting including capitalisation, depreciation and disposals.
• Assist external and internal audits, statutory accounts preparation and tax queries.
• Keep desktop procedures and process documentation up to date.
• Coach and support junior colleagues and offshore RTR team.
• Find and deliver improvements to the close; standardise journals and automate processes.

Role overview

You'll deliver accurate, timely and controlled accounting across the month-end close for your assigned entities and balance sheet areas. You'll be the main contact for your process area, linking the offshore RTR delivery team with UK finance stakeholders. You'll make sure the general ledger is complete and accurate, that it's reconciled, and that it's supported by strong controls.

What you'll do:

Month-end close and reporting

• Prepare and review month-end journals, including accruals, prepayments, provisions, recharges and reclassifications, in line with the close timetable.
• Make sure ledger results for your assigned entities are complete, accurate and on time, and explain material movements to stakeholders.
• Prepare balance sheet and P&L analysis, with commentary on key variances.

Balance sheet integrity

• Own or review balance sheet reconciliations for your areas, such as cash, intercompany, fixed assets, accruals and suspense accounts. Make sure reconciling items are investigated and cleared promptly.
• Manage intercompany balances and settlement, and resolve mismatches with counterparties.
• Support fixed asset accounting, including capitalisation, depreciation and disposals.

Controls and compliance

• Run key financial controls in your process area, keep evidence audit-ready, and flag any control weaknesses.
• Support external and internal audit requests, statutory accounts preparation and tax queries for your entities.
• Keep desktop procedures and process documentation up to date.

Stakeholder and team support

• Act as the first escalation point for the offshore RTR team. Review their output, answer their queries and help them build capability.
• Work with FP&A, business partners, Treasury, Tax, Payments and other GAO towers to resolve issues.
• Coach and support junior colleagues and new starters.

Continuous improvement

• Find and deliver improvements to the close, such as standardising journals, automation, and greater use of BlackLine and SAP functionality.
• Support system upgrades, testing and finance transformation projects when needed.

What you'll bring:

• Part-qualified accountant (CIMA, ACCA or ACA) or qualified by experience
• Experience in month-end close, journals and balance sheet reconciliations in a large or complex organisation
• Good understanding of double-entry accounting and financial controls
• Strong Excel skills and experience with an ERP system (SAP preferred)
• Attention to detail, and the ability to meet tight deadlines without compromising quality
• Clear communication with both finance and non-finance stakeholders

• We've adopted a hybrid working approach to give more flexibility on where and how we work. The hybrid working expectations for this role are 2 days in the office per week.
