About Us

The Marchant-Holliday School is an Independent Special School for boys aged 5–14 with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) for Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. We provide both day and residential placements and are deeply committed to ensuring every child can flourish in a caring, understanding, and supportive environment.

The Role

We are seeking a compassionate, organised, and knowledgeable Assistant SENCO and Outreach Practitioner to join our team. This non-teaching role supports the SENCO in leading and coordinating our SEND and SEMH provision, modelling best practice, and strengthening outreach links with other schools and agencies.

A key responsibility will be chairing and managing annual EHCP review meetings, ensuring that all documentation, consultation, and statutory timelines are met. You will gather reports, liaise with professionals and families, lead review discussions focusing on pupil outcomes, and produce comprehensive review reports for submission to the Local Authority.

You will also support the SENCO in developing inclusive strategies, tracking pupil progress, and providing advice and guidance to staff. As part of our outreach work, you will help deliver external support, training, and partnership development with other schools, helping extend MHS’s expertise across the wider education community.

Key Responsibilities
Assistant SENCO Duties
  • Support the SENCO in managing and developing all aspects of SEND provision across the school.
  • Lead, chair, and coordinate Annual EHCP Reviews, ensuring compliance with statutory processes.
  • Liaise with external professionals (e.g. SALT, EP, OT, CAMHS) to ensure holistic support for each pupil.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of meetings and reports in line with GDPR.
  • Support staff in identifying, planning, and implementing targeted interventions for pupils with SEMH and additional needs.
  • Use pupil data to monitor progress, identify underachievement, and coordinate effective action plans.
  • Provide guidance on inclusive teaching strategies and differentiation to promote quality-first teaching.
  • Deputise for the SENCO where appropriate, including supporting access arrangements and SEND-related administration.
  • Deliver and evaluate small-group interventions where required.
Outreach Practitioner Duties
  • Plan and conduct visits to partner schools to support the inclusion of pupils with SEMH and/or communication needs.
  • Advise on strategies and interventions to improve engagement, attendance, and progress.
  • Develop and deliver training sessions and workshops for external partners to share our ethos and practice.
  • Maintain accurate outreach visit logs, impact records, and evaluation data.
  • Build and strengthen partnerships across the local education community, identifying opportunities for collaboration and growth.
  • Contribute to the monitoring and reporting of outreach impact for the Senior Leadership Team.
Safeguarding and Professional Standards
  • Adhere to all school policies and procedures relating to Safeguarding, Child Protection, and Data Protection.
  • Remain vigilant to the welfare of pupils and act promptly on any concerns.
  • Promote the school’s values, vision, and positive behaviour ethos at all times.
  • Use IT systems effectively for record keeping, communication, and data management.
Personal Development

Engage actively in professional reflection and the school’s Performance Management process.

Undertake relevant CPD to maintain up-to-date knowledge of SEND practice, legislation, and effective interventions.

Contribute to the school community, including occasional support for club activities, lunch supervision, or special events.
