Assistant Residential Support Worker

  • Salary: £13.50 PAYE per hour
  • Location: Halifax, HX1
  • Job Type: Full-time, Temp Contract, Rota System (including weekends, bank holidays, and sleep-in duties)

We are seeking up to 6 Assistant Residential Support Workers to join our Adult Services team. This role is ideal for candidates with experience in adult residential care, particularly in mental health, disabilities, or learning disabilities. The position involves no lifting, handling, or personal care but requires candidates to drive and have their own vehicle with the correct business insurance.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Offer support to individuals with severe and enduring mental health problems, helping them develop skills and confidence to live independently and safely within their community.
  • Assess the needs of service users, working with them to plan and review to achieve positive outcomes in various life aspects.
  • Establish positive relationships with service users and their families, respecting their individuality and personal dignity.
  • Assist service users with all aspects of daily living as part of an agreed outcome plan, while encouraging participation and involvement in the wider community.
  • Continuously assess the mental state and risk to self and others, including the development and monitoring of appropriate risk management plans.
  • Recognise, record, and monitor any deterioration in the health of service users, reporting significant changes to the Manager, Care Coordinator, or other relevant workers.
  • Handle and administrate monies, facilitate medication, and manage other resources on behalf of the service user/organisation while keeping accurate records.
  • Work effectively as a team member, maintaining relationships with colleagues, carers, and other professionals to achieve planned outcomes and resolve disputes.
  • Support service users in domestic upkeep, maintaining agreed standards of cleanliness.
  • Utilise IT and computer systems appropriately to record information relevant to the role.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • C / 4 or above in GCSE English and Maths, or equivalent demonstrable written and numerical skills.
  • Recognised Level 3 Health and Social Care qualification or demonstrable experience (or a commitment to work towards).
  • Knowledge of mental health problems and their impact.
  • Experience in assessing individual needs and managing risks.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, able to build rapport with those in distress.
  • Understanding of data protection and confidentiality principles.
  • Proficiency in using IT to record information.
  • Experience working with vulnerable individuals, in a residential setting, and with people in crisis.
  • Experience in writing Care Plans.
