Job summary

WSP in London is seeking an ambitious Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join our PMCM Buildings team. You will work alongside experienced professionals to support cost management across education, commercial, hospitality, residential and public sector projects in the Southeast.

You'll develop your technical skills in estimating, cost planning, procurement and reporting while gaining exposure to NEC/JCT contracts and CostX/CEMAR tools.

Qualifications

• Degree qualified, or working towards a Quantity Surveying/Commercial Management qualification.
• Experience in a QS or cost management environment (internship, placement or equivalent).
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong numerical, analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Good organisational skills with ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
• Proactive attitude and willingness to learn from experienced professionals.
• Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary project teams.
• Competency in Microsoft Excel.

A little more about your role…

We are looking for an ambitious and motivated Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join our growing PMCM Buildings team in London.

Working alongside experienced Quantity Surveyors, Cost Managers, Project Managers and Commercial professionals, you will support the delivery of pre- and post-contract cost and commercial management services across a diverse portfolio of building projects. These may include education, commercial, hospitality, residential and public sector developments for leading clients across the Southeast.

You'll have the opportunity to develop your technical skills while supporting activities such as:

• Cost estimating and cost planning
• Procurement and tender support
• Contract administration
• Cost assurance and reporting
• Valuations and change management
• Financial and commercial management of projects
• Preparation of client reports and commercial documentation
• Supporting project teams in delivering successful outcomes for clients

As part of WSP's PMCM business, you'll join a team of approximately 600 professionals across the UK delivering Quantity Surveying, Cost & Commercial Management, Project Management, Programme Management and Project Controls services on some of the UK's most exciting building and infrastructure projects.

What we’ll be looking for you to demonstrate…

Essential

• Degree qualified, or working towards a qualification in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a related discipline
• Previous experience in a Quantity Surveying or Cost Management environment through employment, placement year or industry internship
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Strong numerical, analytical and problem-solving abilities
• Good organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
• A proactive attitude and willingness to learn from experienced professionals
• Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary project teams
• Competency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel

Desirable

• Working towards APC accreditation and future RICS chartership
• Knowledge of NEC and/or JCT forms of contract
• Experience of working within consultancy, contractor or client-side environments
• Familiarity with industry software such as CostX, CEMAR or similar
• Understanding of commercial management principles within the buildings sector
• Ability to travel to client offices and project sites when required
