Job summary

Rogers McHugh in Manchester is seeking an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join a growing fit-out and refurbishment contractor. The role offers exposure to the full commercial lifecycle of projects from pre-construction through to final account, working closely with a Senior QS and the team.

We welcome Graduates or Assistants looking to gain responsibility within a supportive, growing business. Projects range from £50k to £2.5m across the North West and wider Northern region.

Qualifications

• Degree in Quantity Surveying or Construction Management.
• 1–2 years' experience in a QS or commercial role.
• Experience in fit-out/refurbishment/ shopfitting is advantageous.
• Strong numerical and commercial awareness.
• Good communication and organisational skills.
• Proficient in Excel and MS Office.
• Full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Assisting with the commercial management of fit out and refurbishment projects.
• Supporting the preparation of cost plans, budgets and valuations.
• Assisting with subcontractor procurement and package management.
• Preparing and issuing subcontract orders.
• Monitoring project costs and supporting cost reporting processes.
• Assisting with the management and valuation of variations.
• Supporting monthly applications for payment and subcontractor assessments.
• Assisting with CVRs and commercial reporting.
• Supporting final account negotiations and project close-out.
• Liaising with clients, subcontractors, suppliers and operational teams.

Manchester (M24) | £30,000 - £40,000 DOE | Office Based with Site Visits

We are working exclusively with a growing fit out and refurbishment contractor based in Manchester who are looking to strengthen their commercial team with the appointment of an Assistant Quantity Surveyor.

The company delivers a wide range of fit out and refurbishment projects across the North West and wider Northern region, working within the commercial, education and industrial sectors on projects typically ranging from £50k to £2.5m.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Graduate Quantity Surveyor looking to kick-start their career or an Assistant Quantity Surveyor seeking greater exposure and responsibility within a growing business. The successful candidate will work closely with an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor, gaining exposure to the full commercial lifecycle of projects from pre-construction through to final account.

Key Responsibilities

• Assisting with the commercial management of fit out and refurbishment projects


• Supporting the preparation of cost plans, budgets and valuations

Candidate Requirements

• Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying or Construction Management preferred


• Graduate Quantity Surveyors will be considered


• Ideally 1-2 years' experience within a Quantity Surveying or commercial role


• Experience working for a fit out, refurbishment, shopfitting, interiors or general building contractor would be advantageous


• Strong numerical and commercial awareness


• Good communication and organisational skills


• Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel


• Eagerness to learn and develop within a commercial environment


• Full UK driving licence
