Job Title: Assistant Quantity Surveyor –

Role Overview

The Assistant Quantity Surveyor (AQS) plays a key role in supporting the financial and contractual management of construction projects. This includes cost estimation and planning, contract administration, financial oversight, risk management, and ensuring compliance with relevant standards and regulations. The AQS assists with tender evaluations, contract negotiations, auditing contractor records, and preparing detailed reports to help deliver projects on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.

Key Accountabilities
  • Commercial Support: Provide assistance to the Project Manager in managing and administering all contractual relationships.
  • Contract Management: Take responsibility for a specific contract within the portfolio and support the overall contract management process.
  • Financial Management: Monitor and manage project expenditure, validate payment applications, and prepare basic payment certificates.
  • Risk Management: Contribute to risk management activities, including developing and maintaining the Risk Register with the Project Manager.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Prepare basic commercial documentation and technical meeting minutes.
  • Tender Evaluation: Support the tender evaluation and negotiation process.
  • Dispute Resolution: Assist in resolving disputes by gathering and organizing relevant information and documentation.
Essential Knowledge, Skills & Experience
  • Education: BSc in Quantity Surveying.
  • Experience: Construction industry experience (utilities sector desirable).
  • Contracts: Knowledge of NEC3 & NEC4 (Options A, C & E).
  • Professional Accreditation: RICS Associate (AssocRICS) – desirable.
  • Competencies: Demonstrated experience in contract and project management.
