Job description
Overview

We would like to recruit an enthusiastic, values‑led Assistant Psychologist to our Brainbow team, part of the wider Psychological Medicine Team, based at Addenbrookes Hospital.

About Brainbow

Brainbow is a multidisciplinary rehabilitation service in the East of England that supports children with brain tumours. It was established in 2013 as a partnership between three charities and Addenbrooke’s Hospital. The service provides a range of therapies and support, including physiotherapy, speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, clinical psychology, and education.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide neuropsychological assessment and psychological interventions under the supervision of a qualified professional psychologist.
  • Work independently according to a plan agreed with a qualified psychologist and within the overall framework of the team’s policies and procedures.
  • Assist in clinically related administration, conduct audits, collect statistics, and develop audit/research projects.
  • Conduct protocol‑based psychological assessments of children with brain tumours, including neuropsychological tests, self‑report measures, rating scales, structured observations, and semi‑structured interviews with families.
  • Write comprehensive assessment reports under supervision of a qualified Clinical Psychologist.
  • Participate in research on paediatric oncology, focusing on children with brain tumours.
  • Formulate and deliver care plans for children and families in community and inpatient/outpatient settings.
  • Coordinate and run therapeutic groups.
  • Develop a psychologically based framework of understanding and care across all settings.
  • Attend and contribute to multidisciplinary meetings.
  • Communicate effectively within the MDT, complex professional systems, and wider teams.
