Job summary

Avon and Wiltshire Partnership NHS Trust seeks an enthusiastic Assistant Psychologist to support inpatient psychology delivery at Callington Road Hospital. You will help deliver CBT-based interventions adapted for acute mental health needs while contributing to service development and evaluation.

You will work on a dedicated ward part of the week and contribute to site-wide psychology programmes, with CPD opportunities and support from a multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications

• Honours degree in Psychology (2:1 or 1st) required.
• Eligible for graduate membership of the BPS.
• Experience as Assistant Psychologist or equivalent health professional role.
• Audit or research experience.
• Excellent organisational and IT skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work with and value diversity.
• Experience with/empathy for individuals who have experienced acute mental health problems and ability to cope with challenging behaviour.

Responsibilities

• Assist with delivery of psychological interventions on inpatient wards.
• Contribute to development and evaluation of inpatient psychology services.
• Gather, analyse and report data to support service improvements.
• Engage in CPD activities and peer supervision within the inpatient psychology network.
• Support delivery of the site-wide psychology group programme and ward-based activities.

Job description

We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated Assistant Psychologist to work at Callington Road Hospital, assisting with the delivery of psychological interventions as well as contributing to the development and evaluation of Inpatient Psychology as part of the Inpatient Transformation, which aims to make admissions during a mental health crisis therapeutic and Trauma-Informed. We use Comprehend Cope Connect as our core model for delivering CBT-based interventions adapted for acute mental health needs. The job requires excellent interpersonal skills to work with service users and multidisciplinary colleagues, as well as skills to effectively organize and maintain data sets and managing a varied caseload. Experience of working on wards or with people experiencing acute mental health problems would be valuable. The post-holder will join a supportive Inpatient Psychology team with opportunities to link with peers through team meetings, shared projects, and peer supervision groups. In addition, you can join the dynamic CPD network for inpatient psychological practitioners across the Trust. Opportunities for CPD will be available, tailored to the acute care pathway. We have good links with regional Clinical Psychology training courses and there will be opportunity to work with others in the early stages of their careers including Trainee Clinical Psychologists, other Assistant Psychologists and Undergraduate Placement Students., Service development and evaluation work will make up approximately half of the post-holder's workload; this will include contributing to the development of resources and processes as well as gathering, analysing and reporting on data. Clinically, the post-holder will work on a dedicated ward for part of the week as well as contributing to the running of the site-wide psychology group programme where required.
