Job Responsibilities
- Assist the Clinical Neuropsychology Service in providing psychological assessments, including neuropsychological and cognitive assessments and behavioural assessments, scoring and analysing results.
- Develop psychological formulations for individual service users that contribute towards the overall assessment of their care needs, using an appropriate theoretical framework.
- Collaboratively establish individual service user goals towards recovery.
- Deliver psychological interventions to service users, for example CBT‑informed structured interventions, cognitive remediation, guided self‑help, co‑facilitated group work.
- Support audit and research activities of the service, including data collection, analysis and contributing to service evaluation and research initiatives.
- Under the supervision and working in partnership with clinical psychologists and other members of the multi‑disciplinary team, deliver a high standard of care/therapy through assessment, planning, goal setting and review of individual service user needs.
- Manage a caseload with support and clinical supervision from a designated practitioner psychologist.
- Deliver brief non‑complex therapies to service users under the supervision of a qualified psychological therapist/psychologist.
- Co‑facilitate group interventions alongside and under the supervision of qualified psychological therapists/psychologists.
- Work with patients using self‑help materials creatively and collaboratively, providing information about other local services relevant to their needs.
- Under the supervision of a qualified psychologist, administer, score and interpret neuropsychological assessments, and develop/deliver appropriate intervention plans, e.g. cognitive remediation.
- Proactively and positively contribute to the achievement of effective outcomes, including conducting evaluations using clinical outcome measures and satisfaction surveys.
- Communicate effectively with service users, relatives/carers and colleagues from diverse backgrounds in a manner that is sensitive, open, welcoming and person‑centred.
- Use IT systems effectively and maintain accurate, up‑to‑date clinical records in accordance with Trust policy.
- Assist with research, evaluation studies and clinical audit relevant to clinical neurospsychology, and help disseminate results to service users, carers, service managers, other professionals and academic audiences.
- Engage in continuing professional development in line with the recommendations of the HCPC and the BPS.
- Maintain client records, clinical resources and databases as required.
- Take part in effective team working, sharing relevant verbal and written information promptly, and continuously reviewing and revising working practices to deliver best clinical practice and increased efficiencies.
- Participate in reflective practice to ensure the service continually improves and lessons are learned when mistakes are made.
- Work in partnership with the wider health and social network.
Person Specification
Essential Qualifications:
- Undergraduate degree in psychology.
- Eligible for graduate membership of the BPS.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Training or qualification in counselling skills, CBT, brief therapy or similar.
Essential Skills:
- IT skills.
- Competency in using spreadsheets and databases.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to travel extensively across the area as and when required to meet the needs of the service.
Essential Experience:
- Experience of working with mental health service users or individuals with neurological or chronic health conditions in a statutory or voluntary capacity, or life experience of coping with mental health problems or chronic health difficulties, including personal experience, an active carer role, or volunteering.
Desirable Experience:
- Experience of research and audit in real‑world settings.
- Experience of co‑facilitating groups.
- Experience of working in a team.
- Experience of cognitive assessment and administration in practice.
- Knowledge of community mental health settings and inpatient settings.
