Job Summary

We are seeking to appoint an Assistant Psychologist to join the Neuropsychological evaluation and rehabilitation in multiple sclerosis (NEuRoMS) project. This NIHR‑funded project aims to develop a cognitive screening pathway for people with multiple sclerosis (MS) and a neuropsychological rehabilitation programme for those with mild or moderate cognitive problems. The successful candidate will be based at the Royal Victoria Infirmary and will work as part of an established multidisciplinary team of clinical researchers. The position is a fixed‑term contract for 12 months, available immediately, and may be offered on a job‑share basis.

Responsibilities
  • Support people with MS to complete cognitive screening online or on a tablet and produce a screening report.
  • Deliver a manualised cognitive rehabilitation intervention to people with MS with mild or moderate cognitive problems, face‑to‑face or via MS Teams/Zoom or telephone.
  • Collect data from screening and rehabilitation sessions, complete data entry and maintain clinical notes.
  • Undertake research‑specific training and Trust‑specific mandatory training.
  • Receive regular supervision from the research team.
  • Support participant recruitment for the project.
  • Manage administrative tasks associated with screening and rehabilitation, including reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with regulations and trial standard operating procedures.
  • Assist with research activities such as analysing data, preparing critical evaluations, and contributing to research reports and publications.
  • Provide brief neuropsychological assessment and psychological interventions under supervision of a qualified clinical psychologist.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and external contacts and assist with professional communication duties.
Qualifications & Experience
  • BA or BSc degree in psychology (minimum 2.1) or a single‑honours degree in psychology.
  • Experience working with vulnerable adults.
  • Experience supporting people with multiple sclerosis (advantage).
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Postgraduate training or experience in relevant areas of professional psychology, mental health practice and/or research design and analysis (desirable).
  • Experience conducting literature searches and reviews.
  • High standard of computer skills including email, Excel, SPSS and patient record systems.
  • High level of written and verbal communication skills; ability to cope in emotive settings.
  • Ability to accept and apply supervision appropriately and to meet travel requirements.
Contract & Salary

Fixed‑term, 12‑month contract; full‑time (or part‑time via job share). Band 5 salary ranges from £31,049 to £37,796 per year pro‑rata.
